Sunday the Lords day we are commanded to neither work nor play for it is Gods Holey day. December the 16th A.D. 1900 hundred opened up quite a dark gloomey morning very cloudey much like Snow or rain armosphere very heavey. Thermometer registers at an earley hour this morning at 49 Degrees tempature my wife and my Self we(re) out of our bed of reposse quite earley this morning clothes on readey for buisiness i made the fire for my wife to prepare the mornings meal by She then wen(t) to work and in a very Short while had it Served on the table readey for to eat we then Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of the Same both eat very hearty for old people after we were about through Mr Gamblins youngest Son came down to See us about Some hogs that was tresspassing on his crop to whether they were ours or not after find out that they did not belong to my ranch he passed on in persuit of the owner of the Same not Knowing who to go too after we were through with our meal my wife attended too her breakfast table and put evry thing in good order a gain then put her dining room Kitchen and Sleeping department in good repare for the day whilst i did the feeding of the fattening hogs and fowls as there was not any more of our Stock up to feed this morning. after feeding i then commenced to violate the Sabbath rule as my wife erged (urged) me to put up a door in her hog pen as her hogs had torned the trap that She had fixed all to pieces after getting the door completed i then taken my Saddle on my back walked down too the bottom field caught my horse then put my Saddle on him mounted on my horse then rode for Crawford to mail a letter to George Frownfelter at Joshua Johnson County Texas. during the time i was prepareing to go my wife was bumming around Seeing about her chicking (chicken) coops and her Turkeys that She had and idear that (they) was laying off in the brush. after the day had been far Spent i prepared night and morning. (wood) and brought it in doors to Keep from getting wet as it look so much like rain at all times through the day I also had to gather me a Sack of corn out of the field to feed on to day as the corn in the cribb had run Short. The Sun Showed it Self to day about noon for the first time in Several days. but Soon Shut up a gain. and at a bout 3 Oclock this evening the Sun come out and Shined beautiful untill about five Oclock P.M. from which it become thick cloudy a gain and the Sun Sit behind a thick heavey cloud. and become rather cool at too-Oclock my wife and my Self. walked down on the branch and looked for a couple of Turkey hens that was laying but onley found one She was on her nest after getting tiard we returned back to the house. and i taken my Saddle on my back walked down to E.D.Costleys bottom field. caught my horse then put my Saddle on him then caught Old Judy mare then mounted my horse then rode to the Bosque and watered them after they had drank i then tied the mare to a tree untill i could ride over to Crawford to mail a letter but when i was about half way through the Tadlock lane Zellar Clary Annie and Edney Leng was traveling the Railroad opposite me going to my place to let me know that they had just come from Joshua in Johnson County and that they wanted me to drive the wagon over to Crawford for there momma and her trunk. So they recondized (recognized) me and Struck across from the Railroad to the public road and met me. So that Saved them of there trip. after talking with them for a while i then. turned back and rode to my place taken the animal that i had tied at the Bosque along with me after arriving at my place i dismounted from my horse pulled my Saddle off of him then put my wagon geer on my teem then, hitched them too my wagon then drove over too Sam Clarys at Crawford after. Virginia Frownfelter and children as they come on the train from Joshua Johnson Co. Texas. to day to Spend a couple of weeks with the Old folks at home. after arriving at Clarys i had to remain. untill the evenings train as the South bound train taken her trunk on So they telegraphed a head to Stop the trunk and Send it back by the north bound train So when the evening train come it brought the trunk back captured it at Mcgregor we then obtained the trunk from the agent loaded it in too the waon (wagon) i then drove for my place of a bode after arriving at home we all dismounted from the wagon then Such a happy time a meeting as there were with my wife daughter and grand children they had it too there own Satisfaction. whilst i ungeered and fed my (teem) after geting through i come in doors and in a Short while our evenings meal Served and on the table readey for to be eat. So we all Seated our Selves too the table to gather once more then portaken of our evenings meal. after we were all through Annie and Edney Leng washed and put a way the dishes that was used in eating our evenings meal. after they were through they moved in too our bed room by a good fire then began to peruse the pages of Some novels that my wife had on hand to find out the articles that they fancied the most and also the Songs that was in the novels that they admired it was but a Short while untill Virginia Frownfelter and Edney and Loueasy Leng departed to there bed of repose as they appeared to be very much werried So it left my wife an Annie Leng to tough it out with the novel buisiness but at last they give up then went to there bed of rest. but as to my Self i Stuck to my post untill i finished recording of the labor performed to day by my wife and my Self and also giving a discription of the weather. Since night fall it has become clear again. very Singular (similar) weather. to behold. It appears to be So dark that one can hardley See the Stars in the Elements. Now as i am through with recording of the labors and the weather of to day i will depart to my bed of repose by first calling on the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. Costley at home near Middle Bosque creek Monday December the 17th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cloudey morning the Sun is coming. out Sum (some) what at earley hour to day. although it is very cloudey. The wind is from the South west. damp and some what cool The thermometer registers this morning at 48 Degrees tempature. The family was all out of bed quite earley this morning as Geroge William Frownfelter Stayed with us last night and he is a earley riser for a chap one year old as well as the balance of the familey all earley risers. after all were out of bed clothes on the woman folks then proceeded to the cook pot then prepared the mornings meal, after getting of it Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our mornings meal. when through the woman folks taken care of the breakfast table and put evry thing about the Kitchen and dining room in good repare. then put the dwelling. house also after they were through. they Spent about too hours in familey conversation. after they were `through they then prepared the noons meal quite earley in the day as the (they) were calculating to go to Crawford in the afternoon after i was through with my meal this mornings i then walked down too the lower end or Side of field South of my house and choped fire wood for the house untill a bout half past Eleven. Oclock A.M. then Stoped chopping wood come to the house and fed my teem. by that time the woman had our noons meal Served on the table readey for to be eat. so we all Sit down to the table then portaken of our noons meal as we had our Daughter virginia Frownfelter and children to dine with us to day as they are down from Joshua Johnson county Texas to Stay with the old folks at home. for Some too weeks or more after we were through with our meal the woman folks taken care of the dinner table, whilst i caught curried then geered my teem hitched them too my wagon, by that time the woman folks was readey for there tripp to Crawford so we all mounted in my wagon then drove for the town of Crawford after arriving at the place we dismounted from the wagon then taken the town in for Some three hours and after they got through with there Shopping. we then mounted in the the wagon i then drove for my place. of abode after we arrived at home we dismounted from the wagon i then unhitched and ungeered my teem, then put Walker in my Stable and Judy in the Stall i then walked out in too the cornfield and gathered corn to feed on to night and in the morning. brought it too the crib then fed my teem and fattening hogs from that part of the work i then prepared more wood for night and morning as i did not have enough to last till morning then Edney and Loueasey brought it in doors for me. we then Staked the calves out in the Straw Stack to eat the Straw as other feed is Scarse with me, after getting the work finished out of doors we come in doors then eat, our evening meal as the woman had it Served and on the table. readey for to be eat after getting through with our meal my wife Annie and Edney Leng washed and put a way the dishes. then put the dining room in order for the next meal after getting through my wife and the girles moved in too our bed room then the girles departed to there bed of repose whilst my wife placed her Self by her table by a good light and red (read) the news as i brought Several news papers Sent to me by my Son E.D.Costley and one from Goldthwait. Sent to me by my Son at Goldthwait by the name of J. M. Costley. So it taken her Some time to get through with the news. during the. time that She was perusing the pages of the times Herald and the Goldthwait paper i was engaged in recording of the labors of the day. of my familey and my Self. which has been quite a buisey day with my family and my Self. the day has, passed off quite a nice day after all but Still Some what cloudey. the Sun partially Shining out at interval through the day. Bosque. creek. Tuesday December the 18th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a cloudey morning and damp. wind from the South Thermometer registered at 56 Degrees tempature. The familey was out of there beds of rest quite earley this morning clothes on readey for buisiness. and did go at it just wright. the(n) prepared the mornings meal quite earley after it was Served and. on the table we Seated our Selves down too the table then portaken of the mornings meal when through my wife taken care of her breakfast table and put her dining room and Kitchen and dwelling room in good Shape. whilst i went to the woods and choped Some fire wood for the house after getting enough cut to make out a load i then come too the house hitched my teem too my wagon as the geer was all ready on them as i had had halled a barrel of water from the Bosque. I then drove down in too the timber South East of my house and loaded the wood on my wagon the(n) drove for my house after arriving at the place. i unloaded my wagon of wood then fed my teem by that time my wife had the noons meal Served on the table then portaken of the Same when through the woman folks taken care of the dinner table then put evry thing pertaining to the table in good Shape again including the dining room and Kitchen also. I then chitched (hitched) my teem too my wagon then Edna and Loueasey Leng and My Self mounted in the wagon. I then drove out in too my pasture west from my hous(e) after a load of wood to take to Crawford to the Blacksmith Mr Edwards. after getting of the wood loaded i then drove for Crawford. after arriving at the place i then unloaded the wood at the old Parsen Right place in the South w est end of Crawford after getting unloaded i then drove back too the postoffice and obtain my mail i then drove to Hickersons grocery then baught a lot of pecons for the children that was with me from there i drove down to the Depot after Some potatoes that Virginia Frownfelter Shipped to me from Joshua Johnson County Texas. after paying the fre(i)ght on them which was 40 cents for too bushels of Potatoes the conductor or rather the opperrator rowled them out of the wair house too the end of the plat form and then we loaded them in too my wagon. I mounted in the wagon then drove for my place of a bode. watering my teem at the middle Bosque as i returned home after i arrived at the place i dismounted from my wagon then unhitched and ungeered my teem after getting them ungeered i walked too the cribb obtained three bundles of oats then led my teem to the upper field north east of the railroad. turned them loose then gave them the oats. i then Secured the gate by tying of it walked back to my bribb Shuched corn and fed the fattening hogs. i then choped up Some Stove wood then Loueasey and Edney Leng brought it in doors for me, So that ended. the out door work. I then come in doors. washed my hands and face by that time my wife had the evenings meal Served and on the table readed for to be eat we all Sealed our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same. when through my wife taken care of the Suppertable and put evry thing in good Shape a gain. after She was through She then moved in too her bed room then taken up a waco. paper and perused its pages for the news for Some time, then layed the paper by and parched Coffe whilst Virginia Frownfelter and her Kidds retired to there bed of rest as they complained of being Some what Sleepy. As to my Self, So Soon as i eat my evenings meal i then went to work to finish the recording of the labor that has been performed on the premises by my wife and my self and also a discription of the weather. the South west wind was Some what cool this evening. and Still cloudey and damp. but good working weather. Costley at home near Middle Bosque creek wednesday December the 19th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cool morning as there is a Stiff norther blowing from the north. blew up in the latter part of the night just past but clear with the exception of a Streek of cloud lying low down from the the north to the east. The thermometer registers in the Earley part of the morning at 40 Degrees tempature Sun Shining very bright. and nice. The familey was all out of bed quite earley this morning as George William Frownfelter being a year old past is a very earley riser. and rousted all up a round him. Edney Leng is nine years old to day being her birthday and apears to be in pirfect health growing rapedley. and is with her grand Mamma and Grand Papa on a visit from Joshua Johnson County Texas as that is her place of a bode at present the woman Folks went to work and prepared the morning meal after getting of it Served. and on the table we then Seated our Selves to the table having Virginia Frownfelter and familey to dine with us then Eat our morning meal. after we were through with our morning meal Anna (and) Edney Leng taken care of breakfast table and washed and put a way the breafast (breakfast) dishes and put the dining room and the Kitchen in good order for the time being then put the Sleeping department in good order for the day after i had portaken of my meal i then fed the fattenhogs and cAlves and the fowls then remained by the fire for a bit as it was rather cold to be out earley in the morning So the entire familey enjoyed the warmth of a good warm. fire. where each and evry one could enjoy them Selves and passed the morning off pleasantly a monxt the familey circle alone as were. them Selves. I Sat a round the fire circle of the familey listening at there prattle of familey discourse enjoying my Self eating of Pecans that the children gave me to eat. untill a bout ten Oclock A.M. of Said day from which i began to Stur out doors to buisiness a round the premises. that nead doing. I first and formost walked over in too the woods to See if the Turkeys had layed to day. afterwards i choped up a lot of wood for to Suply (supply) the fire place to day. also i cutt up a lot of Stove wood and Loueasey Leng brought it in doors. to be handy for the cook to handle in cooking the meals vituals. to day. as the day advanses the wind appears to grow Stronger and cooler. at this writing being half past Eleven Oclock A.M. of to day. Shortley after the time mention my wife and Virginia Frownfelter commenced to prepare the noons meal at at one oclock P.M. readey for to be eat Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same when through with our meal. The woman folks washed and put a way there dishes used at the dinner table. After getting through then they taken a rest for some bit then went to work a gain and was buisey untill they prepared the evening meal and the table cared far after eating then they taken there (their) rest again before going too there bed of repose as to my Self after eating of my noons meal. i then taken my bridals and acompanied Annie and Edney Leng up too my pasture gate north of my (house) as they were going to W.R. Tubbs to See there Cousins as they have not Seen them is some too years. or more. I then taken the public Road leading to Crawford and travailed (traveled) the Same untill i come too my field from (?) i crossed over in Side of the Same. and caught my teem then brought them down too the house Saddled Walker mounted on him then led Judy too middle Bosque and watered them. after they had drank i rode back too my cribb unSaddled my put him in the Stable and Judy in the Stall then taken a Sack walked down in too my cornfield and gathered a couple of Sacks of corn brought it too the cribb then fed my teem and fattening hogs after getting through. i brought my night wood in doors with the help of Loueasey Leng. after we were through i drove the milk calves out too the lott tied and fed them, i then come in doors washed my hands and face by that time the woman folks had. the evening meal Served and on the table readey to eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when through the woman folks taken care of the Supper table and put evry thing about the table in good Shape for the present time then Seated them Selves in the bed room by a good fire to a wait for the hour to go to bed after my evenings meal i Seated. my Self too my desk then began to finish recording of the labors of the day of my familey and my Self also a discription of the weather through out the day the wind changed as often as twice from the north to north west and back to the north again but has been clear and bright all day and the Sun Shined out beautiful and brigh as borned to rule the Sky and as the day advanced it turned Some what cooler. now as the days work is finished we will go to our bed of repose. by first asking the lord (Lord) to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone, and when done with our frail bodys here on earth, to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my pray (prayer) to high. The thermometer registers at an earley hour to day at 36 Degrees tempature. The familey all too my Self were out of bed quite earley this morning. clothes on readey for buisiness. I was up and built on a fire the first one to be up but after building the fire i went to bed again. and Slept untill the woman folks prepared the mornings meal i then a rose from my bed of Slumber put my clothes on washed my hands and face then we seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our mornings meal all eating very heartily as the familey apeared to be enjoying good health. after we were through with our meals vituals my wif(e) taken care of the breakfast table washed and put away her dishes cupps Saucers Knives and forks then put her Kitchen and dining room in good Shape for the present time and Virginia Frownfelter made the beds up then put the house in order for today whilst Loueasey brought in the water to Supply the house and Georg(e) William Frownfelter annoyed his mother very much and done his part of the whindeling and for my part i was at the desk noting down the buisiness of the day carried on by the familey i then fed my teem and the fattening hogs. about that time Mr Fagan come over to Kill a hog. as cold as it is or was he departed too his place of abode, and i went to pulling corn. in the valley North of the house and pulled Eight roes (rows) then come to the house cought my teem then curried and geered my teem, then hitched them too my wagon then mounted in the wagon then drove a round too where. i Keep my wagon under a live oak tree and put my chicken coop after putting the coop in the wagon i then drove round too my Stable then caught eight turkeyes and put them in the coop and taken them to Crawford to Sell. after my wife and Virginia Frownfelter and too of her children Loueasey Leng and young. George Frownfelter got readey for the tripp we all mounted in the wagon and i then drove out. for the city of Crawford after arriving at Crawford we dismounted from our wagon then went to Selling turkeys in the course of too (two) hours. we had disposed of the last one then the woman folks done there little Shopping that my (wife) had to do , after they were through we then mounted in our wagon i then drove for my place of a bode, after arriving at my place we all dismount from my wagon then taken the dry goods and groceries out of the wagon . I then mounted in my wagon then drove down in too the valley north of my house then loaded the corn in the wagon then drove too my cribb and uloaded the Same i then drove too my water Stand loaded the barren in the wagon, then. Walter. Tubbs. and Loueasey Leng and my Self mounted in the wagon i then drove too the Middle Bosque after a barrel of water. after getting of the barrel filled i then drove for my place of abode, after arriving at the . place i dismounted from my wagon taken the children out then unhitched my teem, then pulled the geer off of them then fed the teem. after getting through feeding of the teem i come too the house and i was my told by the familey that Walter Tubbs had gone home and that Edney Leng had gone a long to See that he did not get lost as he was not more than three years old he had come down to my house with his Sister Cora Tubbs annie and Edney Leng and whilst we were gone after water his Sister lit out for her place of a bode and when, Walter Tubbs returned from the Creek and found out that his Sister had left for home he could not bare the idear of Staying all night So he lit out for his home Edney going with him to See that he did not get lost on the way. So i Struck out for my pasture gate north of my hous(e) and also on the road that they have to travail ( travel) to See if they Started out right after arriving at the gate i found out that they had Struck the right road as i could See then (them) traveling up the lane a head of me, So i turned back for my place to wind up the balance of my night work, after i was through i come indoors washed my hands and face then dried them we then Seated our Selves too the table and , portaken of our evenings meal when through my wife taken care of the Supper table and put evry thing in good Shape a gain for the next meal, as there was churning to do to night She rolled the churn in too the bed room by a comfortable fire and began to churn, after She had churned for a bit i taken hold and finished churning She then taken up the butter then worked the milk a way from it then put it a way then her and Virginia Frownfelter departed to there bed of repose and left me to finish recording of the labor that has been performed on the premises to day and also to give a discription of the weather through out the day. This has been a beautiful bright day pirfectly clear but rather cool. Costley at home near middle bosque creek Friday December the 21st AD 1900 hundred opened up very cold heavey frost and freeze wind very cold from the South. pirfectley clear not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements. Thermometer registers at and earley hour this morning at 33 Degrees tempature, The familey was out of bed quite earley to day as it is expected to be a day for Killing one of our fattening hogs providing Mr Fagan comes to assist i was the last one to arise from my bed of Slumber. The familey Soon had the mornings meal Served on the table announced readey for to be eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our mornings meals when through with our meal, we all went to our dailey work. first thing. i did after eating my meal was to feed my teem and milk calves. then i made preperation for Killing of the hog Such as building of the fire then putting on the water to boil to Scald the hog with. about that time Mr. Fagan come over and assisted in filling the pot and tin boiler with water whilst i was prepareing the wood for the fire. after getting evry thing in readiness we then proceeded to the hogpen then Killed the hog then him and i drug him up too the Smoke house in order to get out of the wind and as the water was a boiling we went to work Scalding and getting the hare off ove the Same having my wife and Virginia Leng (Frownfelter) to assist us and we was out as Short while pulling the hare off ove the hog we then hung the hog up then Mr Fagan taken the entrils but of the came after he was through and the hog washed down him and i prepared a table placed it in front of the north room door then brought the hog and placed it on the Same then cut it up and put it in Shape for Salting down. i then gave the head and Some bones to Mrs. Fagan for assisting in Killing of the hog he then departed to his place of a bode well pleased. with his days work and pay. my wife then taken the fat off of the entrals when through with that part of the work her and Virginia Frownfelter prepared the noons meal. after getting of it Served and on the table and announced ready to be eat we all Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. when we were through with our meal my wife then taken care of her dinner table washed then put away her dishes Knives and forks teacupps and Sausers then put her Kitchen and dining room in order for the present. whilst Virginia. Frownfelter went to work to making a garment for one of her children. Whilst i watered my teem at the Middle Bosque after returning back from water then fed my teem. and went to work gathing (gathering) corn corn in the valley north of of my house I pulled down corn untill late this evening . from which i left off work then come too the house and taken a rest as i felt very feble after resting for a while i then, i then taken my teem to the upper field. turned them in the field to graze to night. after Securing of the gates i walked back too my house then taken Cora Tubbs my grandaughter horse put him in the Stable then fed him also the fowls and fattening hogs. i then prepared Stove wood to cook with. i also prepared fire place wood and Loueasey Leng brought it in doors for me, I then come in doors washed my hands and face then taken a Seat down in front of a good fire for about 20 minutes. Then i was cAlled to my evening meal. by Loueasy Leng i then responded to the call then proceeded to the Supper table we then all Seated our Selves too the table and portaken of our evenings meal having Cora Tubbs to dine with us She is here to day for the purpose of making her a new gown. and to get Virginia Frownfelter her aunt and her grand mother to assist her in making if it so they are at work on it to night. But before begining to work on the frock they taken care of the Suppertable and evrything in good order for to night. This has been a very nice day but the south wind has been high and cool all day and at a late hour . it began to cloud up in the west and north and resembled falling weather. but previous to that time through the day. the Elements was pirfectly clear not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements. no where, to be Seen by the necked eye. I have been Some what feble today as my bowels has been great trouble to me all through the day with Severe paines all through my Side and breast where i was heart (hurt) when the wagon run over me Some time back. my wife lost her Specks this evening and She was bothered for Some time looking for them but at last She found them lying on the flower So She was at ease once more, and went to combing of her hare to Straten it out as She had gotten her hare Some what crooked in hunting of Eye glasses. The majority of the familey was out of bed quite earley this morning all to (though) my wife and my Self we were out of our bed of repose quite late but when we did a rise from our bed and put on our clothes we then begin to make a mark in the begining of our days labor Virginia Frownfelter and Cora Tubbs preprepared the mornings meal after getting of the morning meal Served and on the table and announced readey for to Eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the morning meal, when through with our meal Annie and Loueasey Leng washed then put a way the dishes and put the dining room in good repare for the present time whilst my wife went to work to clean and prepare Some hog feet for the cook pot whilst Virgini(a) Frownfelter and Cora Tubbs went to work preparing So (sew a) new garment to wear and i proceeded to the horse lot then fed Cora Tubbs horse and the calf I then walked up too my upper field brought my teem down and fed them and the hogs and fowls by this time the North west wind had rose very high So i come in doors by the fire to a wait my teem to eat after they were eatining I caught and curried then geered them hitched them too the wagon the drove down in too the valley north of my house loaded on the corn t that i pulled down on yesterday after getting of the corn loaded on the wagon i then drove too my cribb then unloaded the Same. after getting of the corn unloaded i then drove out to Some live oak trees South of my house to where we Keep the water that we hall for the use and benefit of the place. then. loaded my barrel in too my wagon then Annie and Loueasey Leng. and my Self mounted in my wagon the drove to Middle Bosque to water the teem and to hall a barrel of water. after the teem had drank and Annie Leng and my Self filled the barrel with water i then drove back to my place i then ungeered my teem and fed them. I then come in doors and found Mr Huffman. he had come to bring Some pictures that my wife had given him Some time back to have enlarged and after we had conversed for a while together the woman folks envited us to our noons meal that they had just prepared for the familey we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when we were through we moved back in too our Siting room then Seated our Selves down again and talked over the past history of our lives for Some one hour and a half i then began the evening work again I first diped the water out of the barrel. and put it in one on the ground after i was through I then hitched my teem too my wagon then annie and Loueasey and my Self mounted in too my wagon i then drove for Crawford to get my mail and get my grinding as i taken my wheat to mill a week ago but they would not grind that day. after i received my flower (flour) and meal i loaded it in the wagon. I then drove back to crawford and obtained Some carosene oil, we then drove out too our place of a bode. after we arived at home. i ungeered my teem then tied them up untill i could prepare wood for night and morning. after getting of it choped Edney and Loueasey Leng brought it in doors for me i then led my teem too the upperfield North East of the Railroad then turned them in to graze. after Securing the gates i then walked back too my lot then fed Cora Tubbs horse and the fattening hogs. after getting through i come in doors and Seated my Self down by a good fire then taken a rest for a while. untill the cooks could finish prepareing the evenings meal which was not no great while. untill the woman announced the meal readey to be eat. So we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our evening meal. after. we were through my wife then taken care of her Supper table then moved in her bed room by a good fire Virginia and Cora Kept on at work for Some time after there evenings meal as to my wife She Kept her Self buisey bumming a round attending to her house hold affairs up to a late hour to night. whilst i was engaged recording of the labor performed on the premises by my family and my Self also i give the different changes of the weather, and its different changes through out the day the wind has been blowing very Strong through out the day from the North west but at this writing. it has calmed down much pleasanter The thermometer to night registers 58 Degrees tempature clear and nice all the way through the day. Costley at home near Middle Bosque creek Sunday the Lords day we are commanded to Keep it holey to neither work nor play for it is Gods holey day December the 23dh AD 1900 hundred opened up a nice cool morning wind in the North west rather a damp cool morning clouds rather haisey that is the Elements. The thermometer registers earley this morning at 46 Degrees tempature. We were all out of bed quite earley this morning clothes on readey for buisiness. The woman folks Soon prepared the mornings meal and after getting of it Served and on the table then announced readey for to be eat we Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same. after we had portaken of the meal my wife then taken care of the breakfast table and put evry thing portaken to the dining room and Kitchen in good order for the present. whilst Virginia Frownfelter taken care of the sleeping department, and put it in order for the day. whilst i fed Cora Tubbs horse and my fatten hogs. then i taken a look for one of the turkeys that was out i found her on her nest. after She had layed I then got the Egg brought it to the house and gave it too my wife I then taken a rest for a bit as i was not feeling very well this morning as my bowels is Still giving me great trouble. the balance of the familey appears to be all right. Side up with care. at or near eight Oclock AM to day Lillie Edney Laura and John Costley J.M.Costley children come to See us for the first time in a long while. at eleven Oclock in the morning of to day i brought my teem down from my upper field then put my Saddle on Walker mounted my Self on him and led old Judy down too the Bosque to water after they had drank i rode out on the bank then tied Judy to a tree. i then rode over to Crawford to See if there was any mail for Virginia Frownfelter after i arrived at Crawford i Soon learned that the South bound pasenger was three hours late. So as i was anxious to Know. wether (whether) there were. any mail on the train for Virginia Frownfelter but as the train was later. than reported. it would be. So i mounted my horse then rode for my place of abode after after arriving at home i pulled my Saddled off my hors(e) the(n) put them in the Stable and fed. them. I then come in doors then eat my noons meal although it was very late in the day almost night, and by the way i Eat too much from which it made me Sick at the Stomache. and when the familey portaken of the evenings meal i could not portake of the evening and with them. after they were through annie and Edney Leng washed then put a way the dishes Knives and forks. teacups and Saucers the put the dining room in good order for the present then come in too the Sleeping apartment (department) then you never Seen Such a time as they had they first began Saying of there Speeches and when they wound up on them they began to romp and play and just Such a time they did have untill they went to bed which was very late at night before they tiard down and give up for the night to go to bed. but before they departed to there beds of repose. they had a pirfect String. of Songs to Sing before going to bed, and about that time. Mr Seagal come over to See me. from Crawford bringing Frank Billman with him. after Frank Billman remained for about one half hour he then returned back to his place of a bode, and Mr Seagal remained with us all night and we past off the time very comfortable up to half past ten oclock at night from which Mr Seagal retired to bed to rest whilst Virginia Frownfelter and my wife and my Self remained up as Virginia had to doctor her baby for a bad caugh and as i had not finished recording of the labors of the day. and also a discription. of the weather at a late hour today the wind Shifted to the north, and become very cool and some what cloudey in the north west. now as the days work is finished we will retire to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. and when done with these frail Bodys of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night - Amen W.E. Costley at home near Middle Bosque creek Monday December the 24th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a cold morning freezing cold wind Some what N.W. north west pirfectley clear. The thermometer registered at an earley hour today at 27 Degrees tempature. The familey as a general thing was all in good health this morning out of bed quite earley readey for both work and play as the childer (children) will take there part in the play whilst the old folks will do the work of the day after arising from our bed of repose and had clothes our person. all went as usual. to work in preparing our morning meal. after getting of it Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same after we were through the woman of course attended too there breakfast table after getting through. they then taken care of the breakfast table that is the woman folks and put evry thing in order for the day after i had portaken of the meal i then fed my teem. hogs and fowls. when through eating i geered my horse hitched him too the buggy then mr Splgle (Seagal) and i mounted in the buggy then drove over to Crawford to get Some Salt to Salt a hog down that we had just Killed after arriving at the place and purchasing the Salt i then had a Shoe put on my horse in front. after getting of the Shoe put on i then mounted in my buggy then drove for my place of abode. after arriving at my place of abode. after arriving at home i ungeered my teem then put him in the Stable and Judy in the Stall and fed them after they were through eating i then geered my teem i then drove to Middle Boskey (Bosque) after a barrel of water although being late as it was through forgetfulness. that i had neglected to do before night fall approche on me, after returning from the Bosquey (Bosque) creek with the barrel of water i ungeered my teem then taken them to night after returning from the field i then fed my fattening hogs by the time that i had got through with my out doors work the darkness had Shet down So i come in doors. washed my hands and face the portaken of our evenings meal when through i then went to work to recording of the labors of the day. whilst the woman folks taken care of the Supper table and put evry thing in good repare for the present, time. after getting . through with our evenings work we all departed too our bed of repose my Self Sleeping in a room connected with the dwelling that i have not Slept in for Some years past. and i did not rest very well in the latter part of the night on the account of having the cramp in both feet and legs. making a great deal of trouble with my nights rest. Now we will ask the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone, and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night - Amen W.E.Costley at home near Middle Bosque creek Tuesday December the 25th being Christmas day AD 1900 being the day that our lord (Lord) and Saviour was borned and also being my birth day also making me Sixty eight years old which makes me Sixty eight Christmas that I have Seen in the State of Texas. as i was not very well this morning I was out of bed quite earley to day clothes on readey for buisiness The woman folks was out of bed quite earley as they were tired of Sleeping. but as i was So afflicted with the cramp i was the first one out of bed clothes on and fire built for the rest to arise by. and at or near Six Oclock in the morning i walked out in the yard not being overley light and discovered a man approaching of me i found as he advanced close to me that it was George Frownfelter from Joshua Johnson County Texas lived near or at Joshua Johnson County Texas and come down on the morning train and let off at McGregor as the train did not Stop at Crawford he come to See his familey at my house being my Daughter and grand Children. in a Short while our mornings meal was Served and on the table readey for to Eat So we all Seated our Selves down to our Christmas mornings meal then portaken of the Same when through i then fed my Stock. it being very cold afterwards i Saddled Walker mounted on him then rode over to Crawford to get Some Cabbage for the woman to cook for our noons meal. as we were expecting companey which arrived before i returned from Crawfor (Crawford) when i arrived at home i Soon found out that J.M. Costley and familey and James Tubbs the Son of Old Uncle Bill Tubbs had arrived at my house for the purpose of dining with the Old folks today being W.E. Costleys birth day being Sixty Eight years of age today and i can feel that my age is cralng (crawling) up on me as time passes off very fast - one does not realise how fast time passes - away and makes people old and feble again as helpless in a man not as an infant babby would be, twiced a child and once a man or a woman. at or or near three Oclock in the evening Tob (Tobias T.) and his Son Tome Tubbs rode out from McGregor to See the Old folks taken dinner at the old folks at home. on the 25th of December AD 1900 hundred. and all enjoyed a happy Christmas plenty to eat and to drink Such as milk Coffee and water wich (which) are healthy and agreeable too the Stomach and easey to dijest.(digest) after all were through the woman folks taken care of there dinner table whilst the men folks assisted the woman folks in there pleasant conversation for the evenning (evening) and at or near four Oclock in the Evening James Tubbs (James Elbert) and wife (Sophronia Anne James) also Cora tubbs and James Tubbs and familey depared (departed) for John Tubbs his brother whils J.M. Costley remained untill rather late in the evening. from which at a bout five Oclock he hitched his teem too his hack then him and his children mounted in the hack then drove for Mrs. Browns his mothern Law ( Mrs. Graves, Brown was her first husband0 his mother in law) to Stay all night as he aims to Start to his place on the morning of the 26 th day of December A.D. 1900 hundred all Seeing a nice christmas day and having plenty for all to eat through out the day and also enjoyed our Selves Splendidley having all of our grand Children and children with us with the Exception of Ed. zxCostley his wife (Sussie Ana Ida Moore)and five Children Ada Luther John Grover and Deen costley as James Costley ther Son was with us, Come up from Waco on that day in companey with Lum Costley. as we were eating and drinking all day we could not posible be hungary or thursty. now as we have enjoyed our Selves Splendedly and have passed off my birth day all well and hearty and being my birth day and also being Sixty Eight Christmases that i have Seen and being a citizen of the State of texas for the above period of time,we will depart to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect all of us in the future as he has in the past and when done with us all to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us all is my prayer tonight - Amen W.E.costley at home hear Middle Bosque Creek Monday January the 21st AD 1901_Opened up quite a warm morning wind not blowing or Stiring from any direction that the eye could See from the movement of the groath of the land but at a bout half past Eight Oclock AM to day the wind rose up from the South but pleasant. The thermometer registered this morning at 64 Degrees tempature. rather cloudey we were out of bed quite earley this morning as i had hired Charley billman to plow and we had to have earley breakfas(t) for him, after the mornings meal was Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the meal when through with our meal then Charley caught the teem watered curried then geered them and went to plowing where Mr Fagen left off when he was plowing. my wife attended to her breakfast table whilst i hope (helped) Charley Start his plow, after getting evry thing all to going i then returned back to the house and fed old Judy and the Shetlin poney and from that part of the work i taken my ax walked down in to the woods south of my house near a Steep bluff and a larg(e) cave in the bluff then choped fire wood for the house untill near Eleven Oclock A.M. from which i left of chop ping fire wood come to the house the taken a rest as i had nearley give, out and after getting rested i then caught Saddled Old Judy mare then mounted on her and drove the out horses to the bosque. to water as Charley taken his teem after we returned back to the lot Charley billman fed his teem and i tied the one up that i was riding untill his teem, we then come in doors washed our hands and face then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. when through we Seated our Selves in our Sitting room for a rest for a while after getting Some what rested Charley Billman geered and hitched his teem to the plow and went to plowing a gain whilst i went to pulling corn. my wife was very a long about that time as She was putting a way her dishes and trying to die her frock and make up light bread all at the Same time and Succeeded in the hole, by Strong perseverance. This has turned out to be a beautiful day Sun very bright wind brisk from the south but pleasant. After i pulled the corn down in the Valley. i then geered and hitched my teem to my wagon then drove down, in to the valley North of my house then loaded in the corn after geting the corn in the wagon , i then drove to the cribb and unloaded the Same after getting the corn unloaded i then drove a round to where the water barrel and loaded on the barrel in to the wagon then drove to the bosque after a barrel of water and to water the teem after getting the barrel filled i then drove back home ungeered and turned loose on the wheat. i then went to work to doing up the Scores (chores) around the premises. and helping Charley to feed the teem after we were through we come in doors washed our hand and face and as my wife had the Evening meal Served on the table readey for to be eat, we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same, when we were through we then that is Charley billman and i moved into the bed room then Seated our Selves down by a good fire although it was not very cool to take a rest as both were tiard and besides i my Self was not feeling very well. as to my wife She Kept at work untill She washed and put a way the vessels used in eating our Evenings meal, After she was through She then move(d) in too our bed room and joined the number, but in a Short while Charley departed to his bed of repose as he was some what wearried from his days plowing So i and my wife taken a lone her to piecing on her quilt whilst i was buisily engaged recording of the Labor that has been done on the premises to day and also a discription of the weather during on the day, this has been an extriordinary day for the time of the year it has been equal to a Summer day in evry respect I worked all day with my coat off and then it was too warm to be comfortabe but Some what cooler the Sun Sit clear to night, and the new moon Shown its Self nice and clear to night Shown to be full of water as it was laying level and Smooth. Costley at home near Middle Bosque Creek Tuesday January the 22th AD 1901 Opened up quite a dark and gloomey rather cool wind from the South West, The thermometer registers Degrees tempature, We all a rose from our bed of repose earlier than we generally do for we was out of bed at half past five Oclock and my wife, had the morning meal Served and on the table before readey to be eat before day light So we all Seated our Selves to the table and portaken of the Same by lamp ligh after getting through my wife taken care of her breakfast table then put her house in good Shape for the time being whilst Charley caught watered the teem at Bosque after he return from water he curried then geered the teem and went to plowing a gain, whilst i caught old Judy saddled her then rode over to Crawford after Some tobaco and my mail after returning from crawford i geered my teem then hitched them to my wagon. then drove down to the woods South of my house and loaded on a load of wood then drove for the wood yard then unloaded the Same. At or near 35 minutes of 12_ Oclock Charley Billman turned out from plowing then watered and fed his teem taken them to middle Bosque to water. by the time he was through with the feeding my wife had the noons meal Served on the table waiting. So we all Seated out Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when through with our meal Charley Billman and i moved in to the citting (sitting) room for a rest although i were not tiard onley from feeling badley something rong with my Stomache. my wife Kept on work untill She had taken care of her dinner table and put a way evry thing in good Style She then taken a rest for a bit, before going to work a gain after Charley Billman had taken his rest, he then caught curried then geered his teem and went to plowing again. N. E. of the railroad. and plowed untill near night, he then turned out taken his teem to the Bosque to water after he returned we then fed the teem, afterwards i fed my fattening hogs and the milk calves, So that Ended the work out of doors we then come. in doors washed our hands and face then portaken of our Evenings meal, as my wife had it Served and on the table waiting for us to come in. just a bout Pasenger train time my wife and my Self drove too the bosque to water the teem that her and i works that is Lums poney and Old judy mare and to hall a barrel of water after we returned back to our place i ungeered my teem then turned them in to the field to graze. Aft(er) we was throug(h) with our evening meal and the Supper table cared far we then moved in to our bed room where my wife had riged up a churning milk and Said that we had the churning to do as She had to piece on her quilt to night So Charley Billman pitched in and did his part of the churning whilst i were at work. a recording of the labor that was performed on the premises to day out before i was through Charley become Sleepy and had to retire to his bed to rest So i had to lay my pen down and take hold and finish churning the milk after i was through churning i then went to work to finish my record for to day, this has been a nice pleasant day and Some what cloudey So much So as to cause the Sun to Sit be hind a cosiderable cloud and the moon was flat on its back denoting rather . a wet moon a greater chance how for the wet mo(o)n to exhibit its power over the earth as it Seemes to me that it neads it to put life in the Earth as it is becoming very dry. E. Costley at home near middle Bosque creek Wednesday. January the 23 A D 1901 Opened up quite a cloudey morning wind from the South west. The thermometer at an Earley hour to day Registers at 62 Degrees tempature wind from the South East rather warm for the time of year. we were, out of bed quite earley this morning clothes on readey for work my wife went to prepareing the mornings meal whilst Charley Billman fed the teem. and i did nothing onley to make a Start in recording the beginning of the days labor. after my wife had prepared the mornings meal and had placed it on the table and announced the Same readey for to be eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. After we were all through my wife attended to her breakfast table washed then put evry thing a way in good order then then put her Sleeping department in good order for the time being whilst Charley Billman fed the teem and after they were through he then watered and geered them and went to plowing a gain whilst i fed the hogs and fowls after getting through. i then went to pulling corn in the valley North of the house and finished in a Short while as i did have a great deal to pull down after i was through gathering i then caught up my teem put the geer on them hitched them to my wagon drove in to the valley then loaded the corn in to the wagon. it is also very cloudey earley this morning . much like falling weather the heaviest of the clouds lay South East. and South west. after getting of the corn gathered and throwed out i then drove out to the waterbarrel loaded in to the wagon the drove to the bosque to water my teem and to hall a barrel of water, after returning home i ungeered my teem and turned them in on my wheat, i then walked up the Railroad to call Charley Billman to his dinner and returned back to my cribb to Shuck corn for the teem of mine that Charley was plowing after he returned from the creek. we then fed them. then come in doors and Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of our meal as my wife had the meal Served on the table waiting for our arrival at the dinner table, after we were through, we then taken a rest, for about one hour then went to work a gain Charley to plowing my wife to peacing on her quilt and i to pulling corn again So we were all really buisey during the day and tiard when night come the wind at one oclock become to be very boisterous and rather changed westward at or near 12_Oclock no(o)n to day and Still remains very cloudey much like a change in the weather very pleasant to day at a bout Six Oclock this evening we turned out come to the house Charley Billman ungeered his teem then taken to middle Bosque to water whilst he was gone to water, i Shucked corn to feed the teems, when he returned to the lot we put them in the Stable and stall then fed them afterwards i fed my fattening hogs So that ended the out door work for to day as Charley had brought in night wood whilst i was feeding the hogs we then come in doors washed our hands and face about that time my wife announced the evening meal Served on the table readey for to be eat. So we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the evening meal and dined heartily after we were through. Charley and i moved into our Sitting room Seated our Selve do(w)n in chares (chairs) by a comfortable fire for a rest whilst my wife was using the lamp to See how to take care of her Supper table of (after) getting through She then brought the lamp in the bed room and placed it on my desk for me to use to give light to wright by i then went to work to finish recording of the labors of the day of my wife Charley billman and my Self and my wife went to piecing on her quilt again, and Charley went to bed as he complained of being very tiard to night. during the time that i was making a record of the labor performed on the premises to day i had to leave off the writing in orde(r) to parch coffee to night for my wife as She was buisey Sewing on he(r) quilt after i were through with the coffee i then went to work and finished up the record for the day. Costley at home near Middle Bosque Creek Thursday January the 24dh A D 1901_Opened up quite a cool morning wind from the north blew up in the latter part of last night. rather cool this morning Thermometer registers 46 Degrees tempature at half past Seven Oclock this morning we were all out of bed quite earley this morning clothes on readey for buisiness i built on the fire in the fire place then my wife went to work to prepare the mornings meal whilst Charley Billman fed the teem i did not any thing before breakfast but grind the coffee for my wife. in quite a Short while my wife had the the morning meal Served and on the table. and announced ready to be eat we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. when through my wife taken care of her breakfast table and put a way evry thing in good order for the present then put her house in good repare for the day then patched my gloves before going to work piecing on her quilt Charley Billman after he was through with his mornings meal he then caught then watered his teem at the bosque after returning back from watering of the Same with my assistance we curried then geered the teem and he went to plowing a gain whilst i went to work feeding my hogs first then i fed Old Judy and as it was rather cool i then remained by the fire for a while untill the Sun was up Some distance before going out to work. as i had to get up my teem and feed them as my entention is to hall in the corn that i pulled down on yestarday i have four rows to pull be fore i can hall and So i will be at it. I first and fomas pulled up to Eleven Oclock then left off pulling corn come to the lot and fed the teem that i aimed to hall with, afterwards i come in doors and taken a rest as i was feelind (feeling) much wearried from my labors pulling corn as it was So windey from the north Charley Billman finished braking the field North East of the railroad to day at ten Oclock in the forenoon. then move down in to the middle field this Side of the Railroad a began to plow on a piece of Stuble that i Sowed in Oats in 1900 and plowed untill half past eleven Oclock from which he turned out watered then fed his teem by the time feeding was done my wife had the noons meal Served and on the table readey to be eat, So we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. After getting through i paid Charley Billman for his labor that he did for Lum this week and then he left for his place of abode as he had finished braking the land that he Set in to brake after we were through with the meal my wife then washed and put away her dishes then put her Kitchen in good Shape again whilst i went to work geering of my teem after getting of them geered i hitched them to my wagon i then drove out in to the field and halled in the corn that i had gathered yestarday and to day after getting through i drove out to Some live Oak South of my house then taken the geer off of them and turned them on the wheat again i then come in doors Seated my Self down by my desk and began to record the labor that had been performed on the premises to day i wrote untill i become Some what rested i then began to do up the night work Such as prepareing wood for night and morning i then walked out in too the field and drove walker up or at least he drove him Self up as he would not near let my Ketch him untill he runn to the house after getting hold of him i then watered him out of the tubb then put him in the Stall then fed him and the fatening hoggs then brought my wood in doors to be handy as the norther was getting tolerable Stiff although it appears to be Subsiding from S what but yet no warmer, the Sun Sit be hing (hind) a cloud that was passing from north to the west, and likely passed on further as i did not notice it any more Now as i an about through we will go too our bed of repose by asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone and when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night___Amen
