W.E.Costley at home near middle Bosque Creek

				Tuesday August the 21st AD 1900 hundred opened up a nice 
				morning wind from the South pirfectly clear wind rather 
				feble at an earley time this morning . The thermometer 
				registers at Seven oclock in the fore noon of to day 
				at 72   Degrees tempature. The family in general were out 
				of bed quite earley for old people this morning clothes on
				readey for buisiness my first move towards work was to 	
				locate the turkeys in the lower Side of my place South of 
				my house my wife Kindled the fire in the Stove to prepare 
				the mornings meal by then went to work to Serving the Same. 
				Whilst i fix my wheat so the Turkeys and Chickens could not 
				destroy it when through i came to the house washed my face 
				and hands then we all eat our mornings meal as my wife had 
				it Served and on the table when through my wife attended to 
				her breadfast table and put every thing concerning the house 
				hold buisiness in good Shape whilst Lillie and John Costley 
				taken the little wagon and went to halling rock to make them 
				a play house and i for my Self walked up to the upper field 
				an brought my teem down too the house then rode them to the 
				Bosque to water after i returned back to my house i then put 
				the geer on them hitched them too the wagon then for a ride 
				Lillie John Ctley (Costley) and i mounted in too my wagon i 
				then drove out in too my pasture after wood to burn in the 
				Stove after getting my load on i then drove for my place of 
				abode  After returning to the house i found Lum and young 
				Maddox and a Negro boy waiting for my return home in order 
				to get Lum Costley oats divided . So when i got my wood 
				unloaded i then  went to work to divide the oats after 
				getting 26 Six Sacks empted, in the wagon. We then tried 
				to pull it out and failed one of there mules broke out of 
				geer So i had to hitch my teem too the wagon and help to 
				pull it too the house.  After getting his geer fixed 
				Maddox then hitched his teem too his wagon then drove 
				for his place of abode in a Short while our noons meal 
				was Served and on the table So we Seated our Selves to 
				the table then eat our noons meal when through i then 
				fed my teem Some oats whilst my wife taken care of her 
				dinner table and but everything pertaining to the table 
				in good order then She began to walk and look for her 
				Spects as she had lost them and could not raise them any 
				where. and had to give it up as a bad job. After dinner 
				was over with Lillie and John Costley began to fret and 
				Lillie had to nure John to Sleep he is very pevish and 
				fretful with his Sore eyes which is very bad on children 
				of his age he takes it by Spells crying  this is the 
				clearest and brightest day that we have had in a month 
				or more The thermometer at three oclock in the afternoon 
				of to day Registered 94   Degrees tempature, very warm 
				the wind Since morning has changed to the South west and 
				is blowing for abit at this writing middling strong to 
				what it has been blowing today. At or near half past fore 
				oclock to day i geered my teem hitched them too the wagon 
				then Lilley and John Costley son and daughter of Jack and 
				Malinda Costley mounted in too the wagon then drove to Mrs 
				Richardsons to take them too there mamas as she was with 
				her mother at this time. After arriving at the place we 
				dismounted from the wagon and i tied my teem then we went 
				in door i found them all well but Mrs Richardson She was 
				very low in Sickness and has been for Some time, after 
				remaining with the Sick Some little while then mounted in 
				the wagon then drove for my place of a bode coming a round 
				by my upper field and halled a part of a load of wood that 
				Lum choped down on last February 1900 after arriving at home 
				I ungeered my teem then put my Saddle on Walker mounted on 
				him and led Red Bird to the bosque to water. When i returned 
				from water with my teem i unSaddle Walker mounted on him 
				barback and taken the pare to my upper field and turned 
				them in to graze. i then come back to the house and Stake 
				the calves out on the Stubble i then come to the house and 
				eat my Supper. as my wife had the evenings meal Served and 
				on the table, So my wife and my Self Seated our Selves to 
				the table then portaken of our meal. when through, i began 
				to record the Labors of the day. And the weather, Now as we 
				are through, we will depart to our bed  of repose by first 
				asking the lord to gard and protect us through the present, 
				night as he has through the day just passed and gone and 
				when done with these frail body of ours to hand us down to 
				our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in 
				heaven Save us is my prayer to night- Amen

				Wednesday August the 22th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite
				a clear nice day no clouds to be Seen in the Elements the 
				air apparently motionless not Stiring as the eye can See but 
				the smoke appears to lean to the north. The thermoeter this 
				morning registers at Seven oclock at 71   Degrees tempature 
				the wind Sprung up from the South west today. The famley was 
				out of bed quite earley this morning on the account of having 	
				to move the oats and wheat from the Straw Stack to day it will 
				not be quite So hard on us as young maddox taken out of the 
				bulk of oats on yesterday August the 21st 1900 ninty three 
				bushels of oats which reduces the pile considerable. Lum 
				Costley brought the teem down from the field this morning 
				and i fed them after our morning meal was prepared and on 
				the table So we Seated our Selves to the table. then 
				portaken of the Same. when through, we then made preperation 		
				to move my wheat we then prepared a room for to put them in 
				then Lum watered the teem after getting back with them we 
				geered and hitched the teem to the wagon and went to halling 
				and Storing the wheat away finished halling in the wheat at 
				12 oclock noon to day then ungeered and watered our teem and 
				fed them. We then come in doors and eat our noons meal as my 
				wife had it Served and on the table readey for eating. After 
				we were through we then taken a Short rest then Lum costley 
				rode over to Mr Procks to get him to assist in moving of the 
				oats. As it was rather to hard on me my wife has been very 
				buisey all day. with her house work and other work a round 
				the premises that had to (be) done at about half past too 
				(two) we geered up and began again at moving of our oats from 
				the field to the house, with the exception of Lum Costleys 
				part as he wanted to hall his to Crawford to Sell them. The 
				thermom registered at too (two) oclock today 94 Degrees 
				tempature. At or near half past too (two) oclock this evening 
				we commenced the work again mooving of the oats again with 
				the help of mr Prock and finished moving my part of them at 
				25 minutes past five oclock P.M. of Said day then. Lum rode 		
				over to Maddox to See about Selling. Some wheat and oats to 
				them. And after he left I drove to the Bosque to water my 
				teem and to hall a barrel of water. After returning home with
				the water I ungeered my teem then taken them to the upper 		
				field turned them in to graze to night after returning from 
				the field I then walked down to the Rock quary to look at 
				the rock masons work which was very nice I then come back 		
				to the house. Seated my Self down by my desk then began to 
				record the labor of today also the weather that has been 
				through out the entire day it has been very warm all day 
				and the heat very oppressive almost too hot for any one to
				work. At about Seven oclock we eat our evening meal as my 
				wife had it Served and on the table readey to be eat, after 
				we were through my wife taken care of her Supper table whilst 
				I finished recording the events of the day. Now as the day 
				labors of the day and all very well So we will depart to our 
				bed of pose (repose) by first asking the lord to gard and 
				protect us through the present night as he has through day 
				just passed and gone. and when done with these frail body 
				of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the 
				(Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer 
				to night- Amen

				Thrusday August the 23dh AD 1900 hundred opened up a very
				nice morning wind rather from the South east with Some 
				few milkey looking clouds low down in the elements in 
				the South. The thermometer this morning at Seven oclock 
				registers 71 Degrees tempature. My wife and my Self was out 
				of bed rather late this morning as we felt rather Stupid 
				from our days work on yesterday as it was So warm. After 
				rising from our bed of Slumber we dressed our person then
				went to our dailey occupation as usual i prepared the fire 
				in the Stove for my wife to Serve our mornings meal by . 
				She then went to work in in a very Short while had it readey 
				on the table. So we Seated our Selves to the table alone 
				Then portaken of the Same when we were through with 
				our meal my wife taken care of her breakfast table and 
				put everything portaining to the table and house in good 
				order for the day whilst i brought my teem down from my 
				upper field curried and fed them then taken them to water 
				after returning back to my place I then geered and hitched 
				them too the wagon to hall a load of wood about the time 
				that i was readey to drive to the woods Maddox and Lum Costley 
				and a negro boy come after Lum Costleys oats as Maddox had 
				baught from Lum Costley when the (they)began to load the oats 
				i then drove to the woods for my wood after getting the wood 
				laded (loaded) on I then drove for my place of abode but when 
				i arrived at home Maddox and his croud (crowd) had left with 
				there load of oats and Lum Costley accompanied them home with 
				the expectation of returning back home this evening, i then 
				ungeered my teem and fed them Some oats by that time my wife 
				had our noons meal Served and on the table. So we Seated our 
				Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when we were 
				through with the meal my wife taken care of her dinner table 
				and put evry a bout the table a way in good Shape also he 
				(the) Kitchen and dining room whilst i was penning down what 
				has been done to day in the way of labor also a discripton 
				of the weather up to one oclock. PM in the afternoon of to 
				day it has become cloudey enough Since 12-oclock to day as to 
				prevent the Sun from Shining out.  At or near half past too 
				Oclock PM of to day i caught then watered my teem then. 
				geered and hitched them too my wagon then my wife and my Self 
				mounted in too my wagon i then drove too Crawford with a load 
				of dry wood for James Cammel the young blackSmith that Edwards 
				has hiard. After delivering of the wood I then drove back to 
				Wesleys Tadlock Store unhitched my teem then waited for my wife 
				to get through with her trading after She was through. with her 
				traiding we then mounted our Selves in too my wagon. About that 
				time a young man thas (that) was employed to teach the Crawford 
				School Steped up too our wagon and I gave him an interduction 
				to my wife as they once was of the Same name and did not know 
				but what they might be a Kinn but they could not trace up no 
				relation Ship So i then drove for my place of a bode when we 
				arrived at home i ungeered and fed my teem. After they eat i 
				then taken them to the upper field and turned them in to graze 
				i then come back to the house and taken the calves and watered.
				and Staked them out and then prepared Stove wood for my wife 
				to prepare the evening and morning meal .So that ended my out 
				door work for to day i hen come in doors Seated my Self downwn 
				(down) by my desk and commenced to wind up recording the days 
				work, and the weather and in a Short while my wife called for 
				me to come to my evenings meal. So we Seated our Selves to the 
				table then partaken of the Same, when through with our meal 
				my wife taken care of her Supper table and put evry thing in 
				good Shape for the next meal whilst I finished recording of 
				the days labor. and weather of to day. Now as a the days work 
				is done we will depart to our bed of repose by first asking 
				the lord to gard and protect us through the present night as 
				he has through the day just passed and gone, and when done with 
				these frail body of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace 
				with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my 
				prary (prayer) to night- Amen

				Friday August the 24th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a 
				blustrious cloudey morning wind very Strong from the South a 
				considerable change in the weather beginning in fore part 
				of the night of August the 23dh 1900 hundred Something Simular 
				to fall of the year the wind is very damp we were out of our 
				bed of repose this morning at half past five oclock clothes 
				on ready for our dayes labor i built the fire in the Stove 
				whilst my wife was making preperation to prepare the mornings 
				meal after the fire got to burning in a head way She began to 
				prepare the mornings meal and in a very Short while She had it 
				Served and on the table readey for to eat we then Seated our 
				Selves alone too the table then portaken of our mornings meal 
				when through my wife attended to her breakfast table and put 
				her house in order for the day then milked her cows, whilst i 
				walked up to the upper field caught and brought my teem down 
				to the house and fed them while were eating i made a cover to 
				go on Walker to Keep off the flyes after they were through I 
				then caught and Saddled Walker then mounted on him then led 
				Redbird to the Bosque creek to water after returning from water
				I geered my teem then went to braking Stubble ground South of 
				my house as Lum left for Waco at a bout Eleven oclock on last 
				night unbenowing to any of the familey So that called me to the 
				plow handles as he had been breaking the Stubble land i plowed 
				untill a bout half past eleven oclock then turned out taken my 
				teem to the Bosque when i returned i then put them up and fed 
				them, by that time my wife had the noons meal Served and on the 
				table ready for to eat we then Seated our Selves to The table 
				then portaken of our meal when we were through with our meal i 
				moved in to where my desk was then Seated my Seated my Self 
				down by the Same and began to record the labors of the day and 
				the condition of the weather So far up in the day being half 
				past one oclock in the evening of to day. the wind at this 
				writing from the South is blowing equal to a Starm (Storm). 
				very high The thermometer at too oclock today registered 
				92 Degrees tempature Still getting warmer as the day passes 
				a way. After a long rest i then geered my teem and went to 
				braking Stubble ground again and plowed untill very late i 
				turned out drove to the house hitched on to my wagon then 
				my wife and my Self mounted our Selves in the wagon i then 
				drove for the Middle bosque to water the teem and to hall 
				a barrel of water when we returned back home i ungeered my 
				teem and as it was getting late I taken my teen to the upper 
				field then turned them in to graze i then returned from the 
				field then Staked out the calves after getting through. i 
				come in doors and commenced to record the labors of the day 
				and the different changes of the weather through the day. Now 
				as the days work is done we will depart to our bed of repose 
				by first asking the lord to gard and protect us through the 
				present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. 
				and when done with these frail body of ours to hand us down 
				to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and 
				in heaven Save us is my prayer to night- Amen

   					The South wind has been higher today August the 24th 1900 
				hundred than it has been this year being Friday and as the 
				day advances it grows Stronger         W.E. Costley

          				W.E. Costley  at home near Middle Bosque creek 
				Saturday August the 25th 1900 hundred opened quite a 
				blustrious morning wind Still from the South Some what 
				cloudey rather damp The thermometer this morning registers 
				at 45 minutes past six oclock this morning at 76 Degrees 
				tempature . The family in general was up quite late as we 
				appeared to be Some what Sleepy headed and very drowsey but 
				however we eventually Crawled out of bed clothed our Selves 
				then went to our dailey work as usual provided wood and 
				Kindling to make the fire in the Stove then my wife built 
				the fire to prepare the morning meal by Lum Costley brought 
				the teem down from the field and fed them whilst i noted 
				down what was being done at an earley hour of the day in a 
				very Short while my wife had the mornings meal Served and on 
				the table and announced readey for to eat we then Seated our 
				Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when through 
				with our morning meal we then went to our dailey occupation 
				Lum watered the teem then geered them and went to braking 
				Stuble land again my wife after attending to her breakfast 
				table and putting her house in good order then milked her 
				cows whilst i went to work to Shell a turn of corn to go to 
				mill and doing other work a round the premises. Lum finished 
				braking his wheat Stuble at a bout 10-oclock in the forenoon 
				of to day and i finished Shelling of my turn of corn at 
				12-oclock noon by that time my wife had our noons meal 
				prepared for the family at half past 12-oclock in the 
				evening of to day her delay in the meal rituals to day 
				was caused by her having to wash as this was wash day 
				with her. So when the meal was announced readey we Seated 
				our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same after 
				all were through with our meal i then made preperations 
				to go to Crawford to mill and to take Some chickens to old 
				Lady Ball of Crawford. After arriving at Mrs Balls premises 
				in Crawford i delivered the poltry that i had Sold to her a 
				few days back i then drove to the mill with my turn of corn 
				after delivering of it to the miller,i then drove up in too 
				the Town of Crawford dismounted from my buggy tied my animal 
				then taken a Stroll over the town to See and learn all that i 
				could . After remaining for Some too hours i mounted into my 
				buggy drove down to the Germon mill obtain my turn of meal then 
				drove to Mr Edwards BlackSmith Shop gave Some instructions in
				regard to a cutting colter to a plow. from there i drove for my 
				place of a bode, when i arrived at my place i dismounted my 
				buggy then taken my meal out of my buggy put it in my cook Room 
				i then ungeered my horse and fed him and his mate but i taken 
				his mate to the Bosque to water before feeding of them when 
				through Eating i taken them to my upper field then turned them 
				in to graze walked back to the house and Staked my calves out 
				on my Stuble ground South from my house So that ended the 
				Saturdays days work, i then come in doors washed my hands and 
				face by that time my wife had our evenings meal Served and on 
				the table readey for to be eaten So we Seated our Selves to 
				the table then portaken of the Same when through with our meal 
				my wife proceeded to take care of her Suppertable i then moved 
				out in too my hall way. Seated my Self and had a long 
				conversation with a gourman (German) rock mason that is now 
				working in rock quary a the taxation of his country that he 
				was raised in. which learned me a great deal about the law 
				rules and regulations of his part of the world across the 
				deep waters. At about Sunset this evening there was a heavey 
				cloud formed in the North  west but Soon passed a way too the 
				north. and disappeared out of Sight, now as a correct Statement 
				as been given a bout the labor that was done during of the day 
				and the weather also. we will depart to our bed of repose by 
				first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the 
				present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. 
				And when done with these Sinful bodys of ours to hand us down 
				to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man 
				Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night- Amen
