W. E. Costley at home near middle Bosque creek

 
			Monday September the 3d AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a nice 
			morning with Some few clouds Scatered about low down in the elements 
			Some what cooler that what it has been for Some time this earley 
			in the morning. although up to twelve oclock on the last night past 
			was So warm that one could not rest well.  the wind is Still from 
			the South heavey dew this morning. my wife and my Self were 
			of bed quite earley to day as we had a bigg days work layed off 
			to do as the hog pen was to be finished to day in order that our 
			hogs could be put in it So after we had our mornings meal Served 
			and eat we went to work a right my wife to milking of her cows and 
			then completing of her mornings house work and getting evrything 
			about her house in order for the day whilst i went to work on the 
			hogpen. being a warm place to work i did not do So well. but however 
			i made all right. The thermometer at 35 minutes past Six o'clock 
			in the morning registered just even Seventy Degrees tempature. Fall 
			of the year is now on to people calling for Sturdy and laborious 
			labor to gather in and house what they have made which will Keep the 		
			majority of the farmers untill late in the Season I worked constant 
			on my hog pen up to Eleven Oclock in the forenoon of to day from 
			which i had to leave off work on the account of the heat it was 
			under the hill and a hot place the are (there?) could not get too 
			me very well i come to the house and what time i was a resting i 
			was recording what we had done up too this time of the day being 
			fifteen minutes past eleven Oclock A.M. of to day my wife has been 
			very buisey all day as well as my Self after resting for abit. i 
			then walked up in too my upper field and brought my teem down to 
			the house then taken them too the Bosque to water after returning 
			with them too the lot i fed them, by that time i come in doors 
			washed my hands and face and in a very Short time my wife had the 
			noons meal Served and on the table and announced readey for to 
			be eat we a lone Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of 
			the Same, after getting through i then caught curried then geered 
			my teem then my wife asSisted me in greasing my wagon when greesed 
			i then hitched my teem, to my wagon then mounted in my wagon then 
			drove out for Crawford after Some lumber and Salt and my mail and 
			to hear all the the news that i could gather. but i found not any 
			So i mounted in my wagon and drove for my place of a bode after 
			arriving at home i drove down to my hog pen then unloaded my lumber, 
			then drove back to the house ungeered my teem then fed them i then 
			went to work on my hog pen but as it was So late i did not get to 
			do but little work on it, So after i left off work i then watered 
			my horses at the Bosque after returning back with them i taken them 
			too my upper field then turned them in to graze i then walked back 
			too the house washed my hands and face the (then) eat my evenings 
			meal as my wife had it Served and on the table readey for to eat 
			we then Seated our Selve too the table alone then portaken of our 		
			evening meal when we were through with our evenings meal i then went 
			to work to wind up recording of the work that was perfored (performed) 
			by my wife and my Self also the different changes of the weather 
			during of the day just before night fall it was much warmer than 
			any other part of the day. Thermometer Stood at 92 Degrees tempature 
			There was Some indication of rain this evening at or near half past 
			too-oclock PM as there was a cloud arose in the north east there was 
			Some reports of thunder but Soon passed a way with out rain a near 
			my place. Now as the days work is done we will go too our bed of 
			repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the 
			present night as he has through the day just passed and gone, and 
			when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down too our 
			grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save
			us is my prayer to night-Amen

			Tuesday September the 4th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite 
			a worm morning  Some what cloudey wind rather from the East. 
			Thermometer registers at half past eight Oclock at 76  Degrees 
			tempature. my wife and my Self were out of bed quite earley 
			this morning clothes on readey for our days labor She went 
			to preparing of our mornings meal whilst i was fixing my wagon 
			bed to hall a load of wood to Crawford and getting the turkeys 
			quieted down in a very Short while my wife called to me to come 
			too my morning meal So i responded too the call come to the 
			house washed my hands and face then we Seated our Selves down 
			too the table then portaken of the mornings meal when we were 
			through with our meal i then walked up too my upper field and 
			brought my teem down too the house and gave them a good currying 
			i then Saddled Walker mounted on him then rode up too the railroad 
			to See about the turkeys as they were gone after arriving at the 
			Railroad i found one part of my turkey on the South Side of road 
			and a part on the North east Side i then drove them back to where 
			the other bunch was and bunched them together then drove them back 
			to the Valley north of my house and there left the bunch and they 	
			have not come in yet and likely not come to night i then come to 
			the house and taken Redbird and Walker too the Bosque to water after 
			i returned from the creek i put the geer on my teem then hitched 
			them too my wagon then my wife and my Self mounted in my wagon i 
			then drove to the woods for a load of dry cord wood to take to 
			Crawford to the Black Smith Mr Edwards my wife went a long to 
			hold the horses whilst i loaded the wagon after getting on my load 
			i then drove back to my place then taken a rest as it was very warm 
			after resting for a bit i then mounted on my wagon then drove for 
			the Town of Crawford i delivered my load at the Parson Rights old 
			premises as that is where young Edwards resides at the present on 
			the South west Side of Crawford. I then drove for my place of a bode 
			coming the near way through crossing middle Bosque at the Costley 
			crossing after arriving at my place i dismounted from my wagon 
			ungeered my teem then tied them to a post to cool before feeding of 
			them i come in doors washed my hands and face as i were very warm, 
			but in a Short while i (my) wife called for me to come to dinner 
			we then Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of our noons 
			meal when through i then fed my teem after i was through feeding i 
			come in doors and began to record what labor that had been done 
			through the day up to too-oclock in the evening but i become So 
			Sleepy that i went to Sleep in my chair writing So i gave it up for 
			a while untill i could regain from my Sleepy Spell that i was in 
			and at about half past three clock there come a gust of wind and 
			rain from the South east and woke me up accompanied by Some thunder 
			passing over the north west taking most of the wind with the clouds. 
			leaving the country behind it Sweltry and very warm the shower that 
			come at 35 minutes past three oclock Pm lasted Something near 25 
			minutes then past over my wife has been quite buisey all day 
			attending to her house work and young fowls be Sides taken a long 
			walk of a bout a mile looking for her turkeys but did not find  
			them come back tiard down from her long walk after the rain was over 
			with i then went to work again but did not work long as my material 
			gave out and i had to go to Crawford after more material and that was 
			nails i had bought Some but they prooved to be too mall (small) So i 
			had to go back and get a different Sise (size) after of them i then 
			rode back home coming by Mr Fikes and getting one of my horses that i 
			had tied up there untill i could ride over to Crawford and back again 
			after arriving at home i dismounted from my horse taken my Saddle off 
			of my horse the (then) mounted on him bareback the rode for my upper 
			field then turned them in to graze i then walked back to my house then 
			watered and fed the calves So that ended the out door work i then come 
			in doors washed my hands and face then began to wind up recording the 
			work that has been done on the premises to day also the different 
			changes of the weather to day Since the shower this evening it has 
			been very warm and clost Now as we are through with our dailey work 
			we will go too our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard 	
			and protect us through the present night as he has through the day 
			just passed and gone, and when done with these frail worn out bodys 
			of ours to hand us down to our grave in pease with the (Thee) and 
			all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night-Amen

			Wednesday September the 5th 1900 opened up a nice morning with a 
			heavey wind rather from the North west some what cloudey. But 
			not suficient to Keep the Sun from Shining out. The thermometer 
			registers 72   Degrees tempature at Six oclock this morning . my 
			wife and my Self were out of bed quite earley this morning clothes 
			on readey for our days labor i prepared Stove wood for the Stove 
			my wife Kindled the fire in the Stove then went to work to prepare 
			the mornings  meal whilst i washed my hands and face then taken a 
			Seat by my desk then began to read the news of the Goldthwaite paper 
			for a bit then began to record the beginning of our days proceedings 
			but in a Short while after beginning of the work i was call to my 
			mornings meal after we had portaken of the meal i then walked up to 
			my upper field and brought my horses down too the house then gave 
			them a good currying then put my Saddle on walker mounted on him 
			then rode too the middle Bosque to water and led Redbird after they 
			drank i then rode back to my place dismounted from my horse unsaddled 
			my horse then put the geer on them then drove up near the Railroad 
			near by in my middle field and went to  breaking Stuble again. i 
			plowed up to 12-oclock from which i drove too the house brining 
			(bringing) my plow too the Shade as i expect to work on my hog pen 
			the rest of the evening after we eat our noons meal i hitched my teem 
			to the wagon when my wife and my Self drove to the middle Bosque to 
			water my teem and to hall a barrel of water after my teem had drank 
			and i had filled the barrel with water i then drove back home ungeered 
			then fed my teem. i then taken a rest as it was very warm Thermometer 
			at 12-oclock registered eighty Eight the wind at about 10-oclock rose 
			from the East. then it was much more pleasanter that it was in the 
			earley part of the morning whilst the wind was in the North west but 
			very feble untill it changed to the East then greew Stronger my wife 
			has been very buisey all the fore noon attending to her house work 
			and other work in connection to the house her fowls Keeps her quite 
			buisey as well as other work around the premises at or near three 
			oclock the wind made a nother change into the South. as i have taken 
			my rest i will now go to work at my hog pen although it is Still quite 
			warm and the pen is in a very warm place. The thermometer at too-oclock 
			to day registered ninty fore degrees tempature very warm in deed and 
			apparently growing warmer. Although there is a nice breeze from the 
			South Several clouds Spotted a bout in the elements but no great deal 
			of Signe of rain that i can See at the present writing. i left off work 
			on my hogpen at about Six oclock this evening. Saddled my horse mounted 
			on him then rode out in too my pasture to look for Some of our turkeys 
			that has not been up Since day before yesterday i did not find them 
			so hitched my horse at the pasture gate then walked over into Mr Dock 
			Coffmans pasture then looked over the timbered part of it and Still 
			did not find them i the (then) crossed back on to Mr Shroids Side of 
			the fence could not See any thing of (them) then walked up to his house 
			and made enquiry of the the lady of the house Said that there were three 
			turkeys at her place today but where they were then She did not Know So 
			i looked a round the place but could See nothing i then turned back in 
			too Mr Coffmans pasture and taken one more look for them in the woods 
			pasture but Still Seen nothing of them i then turned and travailed in the 
			direction of my horse and pasture gate untill i come too my horse i then 
			mounted on my horse and rode for my place of a bode without finding my 
			runaway turkeys . I then rode too the Bosque and led Redbird to water 
			after my teem drank i then returned back too my place unsaddled my horse 
			mounted him barback led Redbird too my upper field then turned them loose 
			in the field, i then walked back too my house and washed my hands and 
			face by that time my wife had the evening meal Served and on the table 
			ready for to be ett we then a loan again Seated our Selves too the table 
			then portaken of the Same, when through with our evenings meal my wife 
			taken care of her supper table and put evry thing in good Shape for a 
			nother meal i then began to wind up recording of our days labor and a 
			discription of the weather of to day Since nightfall it is extremely 
			warm as the wind went down with the Sun. Now as our days work is 
			completed we will go to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to 			
			gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the 
			day just past and gone, and when done with these frail bodys to hand us 
			down to our graves in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in 
			heaven Save us in my prayer too night- Amen

			Thursday September the 6th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a nice 
			morning wind Earley in the morning from the South but at or near 
			twelve oclock to day the wind changed to the north and become quite 
			cloudey The thermometer at one oclock registered 92   Degrees tempature. 
			my wife and my Self was out of bed quite earley this morning clothes 
			on readey for our dailey labor my wife Kindled the fire then prepared 
			the morning meal whilst i went to work on the wagon renovating the 
			bottom as it have gave way and just a while before our mornings meal 
			was readey to eat a man by the name of J.C. Boyd called to get his 
			breakfast. Said that he had no money to pay for the Same but i well 
			new i had the change and would have him able to pay for his grub So 
			after we were called too our meal we Seated our Selves too the table 
			and portaken of the Same when through i envited mr Boyd to help me 
			put a load of oats on my wagon as i had to deliver them at Crawford 
			for Charley Standifer of McGregor So we went to work and Soon had 
			them loaded i then walked with him up too the Railroad as i had to 
			go too my upper field after my teem so when we arrived at the Railroad 
			my pardner taken the North end of Sad (said)road and off he walked 
			Said he had a pardner on a head i then walked over in too my field 
			and brought my teem  down too the house curried then put the geer on 
			them hitched them too my wagon mounted in the wagon then drove for 
			the City of Crawford with the oats after arriving at the place i 
			drove on too the Scales and Ely Thomas waid my load. After unloading 
			i drove back on to the Scales and waid again my wagon and load waid 
			2400 and 40 pound when unloaded my wagon wayed with my Self and a 
			blanket 910 pounds.  So that made fifteen hundred and fifty pound of 
			oats which mades the load way out forty Seven bushels and twenty Six 
			pounds of oats after getting unloaded and wayed off again i then 
			walked down too Suttens hard ware Store then bought some Six penny 
			nails i then mounted in my wagon then drove for my place of abode 
			after arriving at home i then ungeered my teem and fed them by that 
			time my wife had our noons meal Served and on the table we then 
			Seated our Selves too the table then portaken of the Same. up too 
			this hour my wife Says that she has been very buisey looking after 	
			her fowls and calves that She had turned into the field to graze 
			and doing  of her house work and other work connected about the 
			premises during the fore noon of to day and after She was through 
			with her dinner table She then went to work to making of me a shirt 
			whilst i went to work recording of the labor that was performed on
			and off of the premises to day up to too clock this after noon At 
			a bout half past too-oclock i Saddled my horse then mounted on him 
			then went out to look for Some lost turkeys but a long and teagious 
			Serch did not availed nothen. i did not find them So i returned home 
			unsaddled my horse then fed them. afterwards i moved my hogs from 
			the chicken coops to a pen that i built for them. i then taken my 
			teem too the Bosque to water after returning back to the house i put 
			them in my upper field to graze to night i then walked back to my 
			house but before i watered Charley Standifer and his wife come over 
			to take a look at a cow that i let him have and to See a horse that 
			i have to Sell. but the the cow was not up but he got to take a look 
			at the horse as i had him up. he appeared to be very well pleased 
			with him. and if he can make odds and ends meet he aims to by him. 
			We put Redbird to his buggy then mounted in the Buggy and drove him 
			up too the Sir St Rail road gate and back we then pulled the geer off 
			of him and i taken Walker and him too the middle Bosque to water 
			after getting back too my house i then taken them to the upper field 
			turned them into graze, i then come back too the house and in a very 
			Short while i walked up to Mr Shroids after a couple of turkey that 
			had left home after arriving at the place place Mr Shroid had just 
			come in from halling wheat to Crawford for Mr Ganblin So he clum 
			the young live oak that they were in caught and handed them down to 
			me, after thanking him Kindley for his tiber ality (timber ability)
			i then walked out for my place of abode after arriving at my place we 
			put the turkeys in the Stall for to Keep them to night  we then come 
			in doors i washed my hands and face  then we eat our evening meal, 
			as my wife had it Served and on the table. After we were through my 
			wife at tended too her Suppertable and put it in good order for the 
			next meal the come into her bed room seated her Self down in her 
			rocking chair for a short rest she take during her rest Spell She 
			gave her hare a good combing whilst i finished up recording of the 
			labor that has been done on the premises and the  differet changes 
			of the weather as the wind back to the east Some time about 3 - oclock 
			in the afternoon of today. Now as the days work is done we will go 
			to our bed of repose. by first asking the Lord to gard and protect 
			us through the present night as he has through the day just passed 
			and gone. And when done with these frail bodys to hand us down to 
			our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven 
			Save us is my prayer to night - Amen
