W.E. Costley At home near Middle Bosque creek

Friday august the 31st AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a cloudey
damp disagreeable morning very wet under foot and a heavey dew
or a mist of rain through the last past night, The thermometer
registers at an earley hour this morning at 72 Degrees tempature.
we were permited by the higher powers to a rise from our bed of
repose and gave health and Strength Sufficient to go too our dailey
labors a gain. i prepared the fire in the Stove for my wife to
Serve our mornings meal by She went to work and in a very Short
while had it Served and on the table announced readey for to Eat
we then Seated our Selves too the breakfast table then portaken
of the Same. when through my wife then fed her young fowls and
her hoggs that She has cooped up to Keep them from Ketching of
her young chickens then milked her cows whilst i brought my
teem from the upper field and fed them i then Saddled Walker
mounted on him then led Redbird taken them to the Bosque to
water. After they were throug drinking i then rode over to
Crawford Stopping at one of my neighbors that is living on E.D.
Costleys old place to See the woman as She was Sick in bed and
have been for Some time past after remaining with the familey
for a while i bid them the time of day then mounted on my horse
leaving Redbird tied to a tree untill i returned from Crawford
and rode for the city to get a couple of pounds of 8 penny nails.
After purchasing of the nails from Sutton i then called at the post
office for mail but there were not any for me So i mounted my horse
then rode for my place of abode coming by E.D. Costleys old homestead
and getting Old Redbird and leading him home with me after arriving
at home i then dismounted from my horse and unsaddled him, then fed
my teem after i was throug i looked a round for a Suitable place for
a hog pen as i had to build one to put my hogs in after viewing the
Situation of the ground all a roud i concluded to put them back in
the old pen that i have always used for a number of years past. i
then come in doors Seated my Self down by my desk the (then)
commence to record what labor that had been done by my wife and
my Self up to 12-oclock noon to day and the condition of the weath.
the South wind has been been quite Strong to day and the appearance
of more rain was good up to Eleven oclock to day but after that time
the clouds become higher and the wind Stronger and the Sun much warmer
and the Sky much bluer than they were previous to the time mentioned
of above at or near 12-oclock today we eat our noons meal, after we
were through and my wife had taken care of her dinner table then put
evry thing in good Shape , we then taken a Short rest before going
to work a gain the Thermometer at too-oclock to day registered 86
Degrees tempature Now my wife is going to the wash tub to wash our
clothes this evening as it has turned out Such a nice evening and
the wind blowing So cool and nice to what it is been in the habit
of doing for ever So long thereappears to be a great change in the
atmosphere to day evry thing has a Sound of fall of the year even
too the earth Seems brighter than common. and the elements brighter
and pureer at or near half past too-oclock i began to clean up a
round my old hog pen in order to put Some more hogs in it i worked
Some half hour or more and there was a cloud Sprung up in the South
with a mist of rain So that checked me for a while i then ungeered
my teem put them in the Stall and fed them Some Shucks and hay as
they appeared to be very hungry. i come in doors Seated my Self down
by my desk then began to record what had been done in the way of labor
Since 12-oclock today it checked my wife from washing although She had
been washing for Some time i had halled a barrel of water from the Bosque
before i began to work on my hogpen and i just tied up my horses
calculating to go to braking Stuble ground again after working on my
hogpen but the mist and cloud checked me for the evening . but however
i Kept my Self buisey employed Keeping a record of our days labor and
the weather.my wife was buisily engaged churning of her milk and doing
other house work. after the Shower or mist of rain was over with i then
went to work a gain getting it in a Shape to put hogs in again, as part
of it was torn down. After my wife was through with her churning and the
butter taken care of She then hung he (the) clothes out that She had
washed during this time i taken my teem too the upper field turned them
in to graze i then walked back too the house watered and fed the calves
as it was too wet to Stake them out to grass. Now as our venings meal
is Served and on the table we will eat it after we were through with
our meal my wife taken care of the Supper table whilst finished up
Recording of out days toil and the different changes of the weather
through the day . Now as we are through we will go to our bed of repose
by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present
night, as he, has through the day just passed and gone. And when done
with these frail body of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace
with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer
			to night- Amen
