The long continued drouth broken on the night 
			of October the 20th 1900 hundred by a nice rain from the South and 
			partley from the South west   W.E. Costley

	   			 	W. E. Costley. At home. near. Middle. Bosque. creek
			Monday October the 22th AD 1900-Opened up quite a cool morning wind 
			from the South west pirfectley clear- The thermomerter Registers at 
			this writing at 76  Degrees tempature I was out of bed qute (quite) 
			earley this morning and clothed my Self then built a fire in the fire
			place for the balance of the old folks to get up by after the fire 
			began to throw out heat the balance of the old folks arrose clothed 
			them Selves then my wife prepared her her self for to prepare our 
			morning meal, i then prepared a fire in the Stove for my wife too 
			prepare the morning meal by So She went too work and Soon had the 
			meal Served and ready to be eat So we Seated our Selves too the table 
			then portaken of our mornings meal have Old Uncle Billey and Aunt 
			Betsey downs too dine with us after we were through with our meal i 
			then finished feeding of my hogs and ox i then walked too my field 
			N E of the railroad and brought my teem down too the lot then fed and
			curried them after they were through eating i then put the geer on 
			them hitched them too the wagon drove them a round  the north door of 
			my house and mr. W. A. Downs and my Self loaded a couple of Sacks of 
			wheat in my wagon to take to the Crawford mill. After getting of them
			loaded i then drove out too the lot to load on a couple of Turkey 
			gobblers to take one to Jourday the Drugist and one too James downs 
			of Crawford. So after getting evry thing loaded i then mounted in my 
			wagon in companey with Mr. W. A. Downs we then drove for Crawford. too 
			the flower mill after we arrived at the mill and the miller taken my 					
			Sacks out of the wagon whoes name was Earl of the South East of 
			Crawford. and after getting my check for the Same we then drove too 
			Sandifers and Jourden Drug Store from that point we drove to James 				
			Downs a Son of Wa(A) Downs then dismounted our Selves from the wagon 
			i then as Sisted the Old man Downs throug(h) a window in the James 
			Downs dwelling as the old mas(man) was wanting to get his Specks and 
			over coat from out of his Sons house as James Downs had gone too Waco 
			him and his hr wife and had locked the doors So that Shut the old man 
			out from getting in doors and onley chance was too go in at the window 
			from which he did after getting of his Specks and Some other article 
			then feeding and watering of the turkey leaving it in the coop that i 					
			taken the Turkey in we mounted in the wagon then drove back too the 
			German mill then obtained my flower after loading of it in the wagon 
			we then drove too lemons Store i there baught a cabbage head for the 
			woman folks from there i walked  a cross the street and bought Some 
			beef for the old folks in order that they mite have a change in 
			after procuring the beef i then returned too my wagon mounted in then 
			drove too the post office i then dismounted from my wagon went in too 
			the post office and made and inquiry for the mail i received a 
			Goldthwait paper was all the mail that was in the office for me i then 
			mounted in my wagon then drove for my place of abode accompanied by 
			Uncle Billey Downs after arriving at my place of a bode we dismounted 
			unloaded my flower then drove my teem back too the old Stamping ground 
			where i keep my wagon when not in use unhitched my my teem then taken 
			the geer off of them then fed the teem come in doors washed my hands 
			and face then in a very Short while my wife had the noons meal Served 					
			and on the table and announced  readey for to eat we then Seated our 
			Selves too the table and portaken of our noons meal having Old Uncle 
			Billey Downs and wife too dine with us after we were through. with our 
			meal. I geered old judy hitch her too the buggy. then my wife and Old 
			Aunt Betsey Downs mounted in the buggy then drove for Mrs. Graves to 
			See Jacks Children. and the balance of the familey. and remained with  
			with the familey untill late in the evening from wich (which) they 
			mounted in the buggy and drove for home after after arriving at the 
			place they dismounted from the buggy and my wife had too ungeered the 
			teem then tied her too a post as i were not at home i was picking 
			cotton near E.D.'s bottom field. i picked untill near Sun down. from 
			which i left. off work come too the hous(e) prepared wood for the 
			Stove and brought it in doors doors for my wife too prepare the evening
			meal. i then, Saddled my horse rode him and led Judy the animal that 
			my wife work this even. down to middle Bosque to water After they were 
			through i rode back too my house. after i arrived at my place i 
			dismounted from my horse pulled my Saddle off of my (horse) then 
			mounted on my horse barback then rode too my field. N.E. of the 
			railroad. and turned my teem in the field, to graze i then. Secured. 
			the gates afterwards i walked back too the house then fed the hogs. 
			afterwards i then prepared wood for night and morning. then brought. 
			it in doors then fed my ox that i had tied up. So that finished our 
			days work out doors. i then come in doors washed  my hands and face. 
			In a Short while my wife had the evenings meal Served,and on the table 
			after announcing the meal readey too be Eat. we then Seated our Selves 
			too the tabble then portaken of the Same when through. and my wife 
			taken care of the Suppertable then we moved in too our bed room by a 
			good fire. then all began too talk upon a great many question 
			conserning our wellfare. both on earth and in heaven and in a Short 
			while. then departed to his bed of repose whilst my wife and Grand 
			mama Downs. Sit up and done the talking whilst. I did the writing 
			of recording. the Labors performed during the day my Self and my 
			wife now after we are all through with our work we will go too our 
			bed of rest by first asking the lard to gard and protect us through 
			the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone and 
			when done with these frail bodys of ours to hand us down too our 
			grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save 
			us is my prayer too night-Amen

			Tuesday October the 23dh AD 1900. hundred .Opened up quite a nice day. 
			wind from the South Thermometer registered at a bout 12-Oclock noon. to
			day at even 80  Degrees tempature. we were out of our bed quite late 
			this morning as i did not rest very well on the account of an absess 
			romed at the root of my tooth and makes it very painful and not much 
			rest well to make the Story Short in relating of the work that has been
			done on the premises too day i will Say that we a rose as usual this 
			morning clothed our Selves then did our mornings Schores and eat our 
			mornnings meal after we were through the morning meal we then milked 
			the cow afterwards i brought my teem down too the lot then fed them i 
			then curried and geered them. hitched them too the wagon then Old Uncl 
			Billey Downs littles John Costley and my Self in the wagon i then drove
			too Middle Bossque too water the teem and to hall a barrel of water 
			after the horses had drank and i had filled the barrel with water i 
			then drove back home after arriving at the place i unhitched my teem i 
			tied up old Judy taken the geer on walker that i had jus pull the geer 
			off of then hitched him too my buggy afterwards Old Uncle Billy Downs 
			little John Costley Jack Costleys boy and my Self mounted in the buggy 
			i then drove up in too Mr Thompsons pasture too look for my horses and 
			Uncle Billey Downs wanted to look over the country that he has once 
			lived in. after getting in too what was called the Fullin Field i Saw 
			Some horses on the lower Side of the field on the out Side of Said farm
			we then drove back the way that we just had gone up untill we come too 
			the road that led throught the Prairie way to the Fullin field on 
			Andersons land we taken the road then drove too where the horses was 
			graising. and when we arrived at the place i found that it was not my 
			horses but answered the discription of them at a distance. We then 
			turned back driving for my place of a bode after arriving at my place 
			then dismounted from the buggy and taken him from the buggy and fed him
			and the old mare afterwards i watered and fed my ox that i had tied up.
			by that time my wife had our noons meal Served and on the table then 
			announced readey we then taken Seats having Uncle Billey Cowns and wife
			and little Jack Costley(should be John)  as our guest at our noons meal.
			after getting through with our meal i then made preperations for the Old
			Man Downs and wife too go home at Crawfor as they lived at that place 
			with there Son James Downs So i geered then hitched Old Judy mare too 
			the Buggy then Mr Downs and wife and little Jack (should be John) 
			Costley mounted in the buggy then drove fro Crawford too there place 
			of a bode after arriving at there place they dismounted and went in too
 			the house in a Short while i arrived at the place for the purpose of 
			taking the buggy and horse back too my place i lit from my horse that 
			i was wriding tied him too a post then walked in doors bid the house 
			lady the time a day then Seated my Self for a few minutes untill Old 
			Uncle Billey downs could draw a bucket of water then bring it in doors 
			i then taken a good drink then the Old man and little John Costley 
			mounted in the buggy then drove down in to Crawford and i rode 
			horseback untill we arrived on the Square in Crawford the Old man 
			dismounted from the buggy and i dismounted from my horse unsaddled 
			him put my Saddle in the buggy then mounted my Self in the buggy then
			drove for my place of abode Stoping at billey Tadlocks and purchasing 
			a package of Soda for my wife i then drove too Clary Shop too Show him 
			my boy from there i drove for my place of a bode after arriving at 
			home John John and my Self dismounted from the buggy i then taken the 
			animal that. i was working from the buggy ungeered her then taken her 
			too the field that i have been in the habit of turning in as i had left
			my horse ther as i come through. about that time i heard my horse bell 
			i then taken the railroad too the cattle gard to meet Lee Thompson who 
			was driving of them up too his place as he had found them in Crawford 
			as they had turned them out of Warrens farm at Ciserows Graves in the 
			Town of Crawford and that he had drove them round the public road in 
			order to get them home. So he Said that he would turn them back in 
			his pasture So i could get my part of the herd i then walked back too 
			my house prepared wood for night and morning for the Stove and fire 
			place then brought it in doors afterwards i then fed my hogs and also 
			my ox that i had tied too a tree to Keep him out of the field. by tha 
			time it was growing late then our evenings meal come on to be eat as 
			usual it being Served and on the table we Seated our Selves too the 
			table. the croud consisting of my wife John costley Jack Costleys 
			little boy and my Self then portaken of our evenings meal after getting
			through with our meal my wife wife taken care of her Suppertable and 
			put her Kitchen in good order a gain. we then moved intoo our bed room 
			by a good fire. and as i had brought a Waco paper from Crawford when i 
			returned from Crawford She Spent her leasure moments at the wind up of 
			the labors of the days work in reading of the news. whilst i was 
			engaged in recording of the labor performed by my wife and my Self 
			during of the day now as we are through with our work and neether one 
			of us will. we will retire too our bed of repose by first asking of 
			the Lard to gard and protect us through the present night as he has 
			through the day just passed and gone and when done with these frail 
			bodys of ours to hand us down too our grave in peace with the and all 
			man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer too night-Amen

			Wednesday October the 24th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a warm 
			morning and rather cloudey wind from the east The thermometer 
			registers this morning at 70  Degrees tempature we up out of bed 
			quite late this morning on the account of not being well as i had 
			a chill last night and a Sharp fever and my wife is feeling Some 
			what poorley John is all right and the onley one that is well he is 
			having a happy time pulling of his little wagon. my wife were out 
			of bed the first one as i was not well at the time on having of a 
			chill on last nigh i Still had fever this morning and Extry of 
			abcess at the root of my teeth on my left under jaw. i had a Severe 
			hearting (hurting) in the left Side of my head and the fever in 
			connection with my other ailments makes me feel qute poorley i will 
			assure you. my wife after She a rose from her bed of Slunber prepared 
			the morning meal when She had it Served and on the table John 
			Costley and and my wife portaken of there mornings meal a lone as 
			i was in bed not felling well enough to get out of bed. but after 
			Some time past i arose from my bed and drank a cup of Coffee then 
			eat a few bites but did not Seem too releave my head after a while 
			after drink of the coffee and after my wife had milked She made me 
			Some Clover root tea and i drank it and that did not Seem too ease 
			my head at the time that i drank it and it continued So all through 
			the day. very much rendered me very miserable with the pain it in my 
			jaw and head a long after the turn of the day i drank Some coffe and 
			eat Some buscuit and butter and Sat. afterwards my wife and my Self 
			and little John costley Jack Costleys boy taken the calves up the road 
			in the direction of the Railroad gates then Staked them we walked up 
			too the  Railroad and my wife and John remained at the gate untill i 
			could go too the uper Side and bring the teem down too where my wife 
			was after returning back we then come on too the house i then geered 
			the teem whilst my wife diped what water there was in the barrol in 
			the wagon then put it in one on the ground i then hitched my teem too 
			the wagon we all mounted in the wagon i then drove too the Bosque to 
			watered my teem and to hall a barrel of water. after he horses drank 
			and i had filled the barrel with water. i then drove back to my house 
			ungeered and fed my teem and Ox. I then come in doors to rest whilst 
			my wife done her churning and John done the Snubing (sobbing) as he 
			wanted to go home to where the other children were. his Sisters but 
			he Soon become contented a gain and went too playing a by him self. 
			and bothering his grand ma ma. when She was churning the milk.after 
			the horses was through eating through my febleness i taken them back 
			too my field then turned them in too graze after Securing of the gate 
			i returned back to the house then fed the hogs also my ox or mail (male) 
			a gan after getting through i then brought in my fire place wood also 
			the Stove wood by the time i was through my wife had the evening meal 
			Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves too the table then 
			portaken of our evevenings (evenings) meal when through with our meal 
			my wife taken care of her Supper table and put evry thing used in 
			eating our meal a way in good order then we moved in too our bed room 
			to finish up our last work for too day. my wife taken her old Stand then 
			taken up a Waco paper of the latest date then commenced perusing its 
			pages for the news whilst i engaged in recording of the labor that has 
			been perfored (performed) on the premiseses too day the day ended very 
			warm and clowdey much like untoo fawling (falling) weather now as our 
			days work is done we will go too our bed of repose by first asking the 
			Lord too gard and protect us through the present night as he has through 
			the day just passed and gone and when done with these frailed bodys of 
			ours to hand us down too our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man 
			Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night-Amen

			Thursday October the 25th AD 1900 hundred opened up quite a cloudey 
			mistey day wind not Sturing earley in the morning look as though it 
			would rain evry moment but when the wind did make a move it a rose 
			from the             The thermometer this morning registered 68   
			Degrees tempature and the mist of rain in creasing. i was out of bed 
			quite earley this morning although not very well. built a fire in the 
			fire place not because it was any ways cool but in order to drive out 
			the dampness of the weather. then my wife and littley (little) John 
			Costley a rose from there bed of repose and went to work to prepare the
			mornings meal whilst i fed the fowls and my mail (male) ox that i had 
			tied up also the hogs by the time i was through. my wife. had the 
			mornings meal Served and on the table readey to be eat. So we Seated 
			our Selves too the table then portaken of the morning meal. about the 
			time we were dining Mr Billman come to See us in regard to Some trouble
			that he had on hand and after remaining for Some time. he then departed
			to the botton field to gethering corn as he was gethering the corn in 
			E.D.Costleys bottom field. North of middle Bosque Creek as he 
			cultivated the ground this year being 1900 hundred. after we were 
			through my my wife taken care of her breakfast table and put evry 
			thing in good Shape a gain. She then milked her cows with my assistance
			bringing up the calves that was Staked out on the grass i then tied 
			them up in order too be handy. I then walked to my upper field caught
			and brought them down too the lott and fed them whilst they was eating 
			i taken my hand mower and cutt Some Weeds down a round the yord as my 
			wife was cleaning off the yard. to make and inprovement a monxt 
			(amongst) her fowls. after the horses was through eating i Saddled 
			walker then rode him and led Judy too too the bosque to water at middle
			Bosque creek after they had drank i then rode on a cross the Bosque up
			a bout half way too the top of the mountain then tied old Judy too a 
			tree untill i could ride over to Crawford and get Some matches and 
			to baco after remaining at the place for a while i then purchased the
 			articles that i had gone after then mounted on my horse and rode for
			my place of a bode in coming home i brought old Judy mare that i had
			tied on the rod (road) after arriving at my place i dismounted from my 
			horse then tied them too a post come in doors disposed of of the Tobaco 
			and matches by putting them up. in a Secure place. i then washed my 
			hands and face by that time my wife had her noons meal Served and on 
			the table readey to be eat we then Seated our Selves too the table 
			then portaken of our noons meal when through with our meal. my wife 
			taken care of her dinner table then put evry thing in good order again.
			we then moved in too our Setting room and past off quite a while in 
			reading and writing my wife did the reading whilst i did the writing. 
			making out my dailey report of the labor that is done on the premis 
			during the day by my wife and my Self as She has been at work hard 
			all day cleaning up the yard and putting it in good fix. for Some 
			time to come. at or near three oclock PM i Saddled my horse then rode 
			own too the Bosque valley after one of our milk cows that failed to 
			come up this morning after aconsiderable ride it did not a mount too		
			any thing as i failed to find her but when i returned back home i found
			her at home She had come up during the time that i was on the hunt. 
			for her after i returned back home i then unSaddled my horse watered 
			the barrel as i had watered the one i was riding on the bosque 
			or at leat (least) at the Bosque river whilst on the hunt for the cow 
			i then taken (them) too my uper field and turned them in too graze to 
			night after fastening of the gates i walked back too the house and 
			assited my wife in driving her Milk calves out too grass and Staken 
			them after getting of them Staked on the grass we then gathered Some 
			corn to feed the hogs. and horses about the time we began to gather 
			the corn there we a mild Shower come (at) us from the South east but 
			hower (how ever) we gathered the corn brought it too the house She fed 
			the hogs whilst i Shucked the corn that we had gathered to get the S
			hucks to feed too my mule ox after getting the corn Shucked i gave the 		
			ao him. then prepared Stove wood and fire place wood for 
			night and morning . then brought it in doors a bout that time the 
			Shower of rain began to fall very rapid far a bit. then checked up. it 
			just rains at intervals short Shower. after getting the wood in the 
			house we then eat a cold Snack for our evenings meal after getting 
			through with our meal my wife taken care of her suppertable. when 
			through with the work we moved in too our Sitting room by a fire it 
			not being cold but the fire was built to drive the damp out as we were
			Some what damp our Selves. I than began to record or rather finish 
			recording the labor that was done on the premises. to day. and as we 
			REh with our labors for too day we will go too our bed of  
			repose by first asking the lord to gard and protect us through the 
			present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. and 
			when done with these frail bodys of ours too hand us down too our 
			grave in peace with the ( Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us 
			is my prayer too night-Amen
