Sunday the Lords day we are commanded to neither work nor play for it is Gods Holey day December the 9th AD 1900 hundred Opened up quite a Cool morning wind from the North west The Thermometer registers at an early hour this morning at 28 Degrees tempature. we were out of bed quite late as it was very cool and also a day of rest. but however when we did a rise from our bed of Slumber we put on our clothes i then built a good fire in the fire place and So Soon as it had burnt Sufficent enough to make coles to cook by we went to work to prepare our Sabbath mornings meal. after getting of it Served and on the table we then alone Seated our Selves too the dining table and eat the Same when we were through with our meal i then fed the fattening hogs whilst my wife attended too her breakfast table after getting through with our mornings work i walked down to ED. Costleys bottom field taken my Saddle on my back caught my horse then rode over to Crawford to See a bout my mail matters after arriving at the place i found out that the train would be rather late. So i remain at the depot a bout one hour then taken with a leaving the place for my place of a bode after arriving at E.D.Costleys bottom field on the north Side of middle Bosque i drove Some of John Tubbs cattle out of E.D.s bottom field i then rode on home unsaddled my horse brought my Saddle in doors and hung it up then taken a rest as i felt Some what wearried from my trip to Crawford as i have not rode on horse back in Some too months or more. and otherwise not feeling overly well. after resting for a bit i then walked out in too my cornfield and gathered Some corn to feed the Stock on to night. for that time my wife had prepared a bite to eat and we there portaken of the Same at or near 10-Oclock the wind Shifted to the NE. and was Some cooler than it was just before that time or change my wife remained a lone whilst i was gone to Crawford. at a bout too-Oclock Cora Elly Kitty and Walter Tubbs come down to Se (see) us as they have not been to See us in some length of time before. during the time they were to See us Walter Tubbs hope (helped) me to gether Some corn to feed on to night after getting it to the crib we then Shucked the Same i then brought a arm full in doors then Walter and Effy Tubbs hope (helped) me to Shell the Same for the fowls, after getting of it Shelled i then fed it too the chickens and Turkeys as i had not fed them to day. when i was through I then come in doors Seated my Self then had a long chat with the children what time they remained. but about 4 Oclock they mounted in to there buggy then drove for there place of abode. Some too miles north west of my place. I then Set in to pirfect. my nights work which i did in Short order as i was not feeling very well. after i was through with my work i come in doors feeling very feble my wife had the evenings meal Served and on the table So we Seated our Selves too the table i (was) not feeling as though i wanted a bite to eat but i drank a cup of coffe. (coffee) eat a few turnup greens Some butter and bread for my meal my wife could hardly eat her meal for and old decayed tooth that was giving her much trouble in pain and distress however after we were through and the Supper table cared far we then moved in too our bedroom Seated our Selves by a good fire and i went to work to finish up recording the labor that was performed on the premises by my wife and my Self and also a discription of the weather and it('s) changes through the day at a late hour to day it become very cool and cloudey and for the third time the wind Shifted to different localities the last one was to the South east which occured at a bout four Oclock PM of to day. Now as we are about readey to retire to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. and when done with our frail bodys here on earth to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night. Amen W.E.Costley at home near Middle Bosque Creek Monday December the 10th AD 1900 hundred Opened up very odd and calm wind not Stering but when it did move up it was from the South heavey freeze and frost my wife and my Self were out of bed and clothes on before the Sun rose this morning readey for buisiness. The thermometer registered 26 Degrees tempature at an earley hour to day. We prepared our morning meal then portaken of the Same when through with our meal i done the feeding of the Stock whilst my wife taken care of her table and put her house in order for the day. from all appearence a head it bids fare to to be a nice day as it is pirfectly clear and not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements after getting through with our mornings work my wife made preperations for washing our clothes after getting all ready She then went to work at her wash tub a bout that time Old Uncle Ike Bibles come over to cut me some cord wood to burn So we ground his ax on my gring (grinding) rock after getting of it ground i went with him over too my woods to show him where to chop the wood after getting him Started to work i then walked back too my house and assisted my wife about washing such as renewing the fire under the boiler and furninshing water to wash with, It is a beautiful day for the buisiness although the south wind is some what cool in its nature after getting through helping my wife. i wrote a message on a card to Send to EDCostley as i aim to go to Crawford this evening to get my mail and Some to baco (tobacco) After my wife prepared our noons meal and placed it on the table we Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same. after we were through. my wife taken care of her dinner table and arranged evrything all right a gain then taken a rest of about three quarters of an hour before going to the wash tubb again. as too my Self after i had eat my noons meal i then caught and Saddled my horse mounted on him rode down into EDs bottom field caught and led Old Judy mare down too the Bosque to water at the Same time run John Tubbs cattle out of Said field after Judy and the horse that i was riden drank i tied Judy to a tree untill i could ride over . to Crawford as i had to go over there to get my mail and Some tabaco and Soda also to have a shoe put on my horses feet as one of then was about off, James Cammel is the young man that performed the work for me after getting of the Shoe on the horse write (right) hind foot and the job completed i then walked and led my horse down to William Tadlocks Store and received my tobaco and Soda. and mail i then . mounted on my horse then rode for my place of abode bringing Old Judy mare on home with me as i wanted to hall in Some corne. after arriving at home i dismounted from my horse pulled the Saddle off of him the(n) put my wagon ger (geer) on my teem. hitched them too my wagon drove out too my cornfield and gathered Some corn to feed my Stock on whilst i was at work halling wood as i aim at beginning on to morrow morning bringing of it in home. Should i be So luckey to live that long and continue to be able to work. after getting of the corn gathered i then drove too my cribb unhitched my teem from my wagon then drove the teem to my grain house and ungeered them then tied each one of my horses to a Seperate post untill i could Shuck corn to feed them. i then put the corn in a Sack then taken the corn and my teem down to the bottom field then turned them in then fed them. after i was through, i walked back to my residence then fed my hogs and my calves and tied them ,up for the. night, i then prepared wood for night and morning then brought it in doors to have it handy. should it turn cold. by that time my wife had the evenings meal served and on the table readey for to be eat we then Seated our Selves to the table a lone and portaken of our evenings meal when through. my wife taken care of the suppertable and put evry thing portaining to the table in good Shape again, then moved in to our bed room by a good fire then my wife Seated her Self in front of a nice warm fire taken the gold th wait paper that i brought home with me from Crawford and Spent about one half hour perusing (peruseing) it pages for the late news of the day after She was through She then went to work renovating her dress as it was about to go to Strings Whilst i Seated my Self Seated my Self down at my desk and finished recording the labor that was done on the premises to day by my wife and my Self and also a discription of the weather and it('s) changes through out the day. For this has been a beautiful day all the way through, and clear and nice the Sun Sitting as clear as Scristal. (Crystal) not a cloud to be Seen in the Elements no where in Sight. The termometer registers 32 Degrees tempature at an earley hour this morning clear that is the elements this morning as a christal not a cloud to be Seen. and pirfectley Still is air Sturind it being the first day of December 1900 hundred we were out of bed quite late this morning on the account of the cold but at last we a rose from our warm bed of Slumber dressed our person and went to work as usual to preparing our mornings meal after getting of it Served and on the table we then Seated our Selves to the table then portaken of the Same when through and the table cared for my wife then fed her fatnings hogs and began to make preperations to wash her clothes when Mr Billman drove up withith (with) his teem to hall her cotton we then turned loose evry thing Set a part for our dailey work then hope (help) Mr billman and Frank load the cotton, after getting the cotton loaded. I then walked down to E.D. Costleys field after my teem, when i returned with the teem Mr Billman had drove out for crawf (Crawford) to the ginn with the load of cotton. So when i returned with the teem i geered and hitched them too my waogn then my wife and my Self mounted in the wagon then drove for Crawford to get the Seed of Said bail of cotton and to Sell the bail of cotton after being ginned the cotton was ginned at Alvin Hickersons gin.and when sold brought nine Dollars and thirty cents per hundred waying five hundred and twenty one pounds net valuations $48.45cts paid by marks the byer (buyer)after getting evry thing Satisfactory fix we mounted in our wagon then drove for home with the Seed after arriving at home i ungeered my teem then put the Saddle on Walker mounted on a box then on to my horse then rode back on our way that we had come home to look for a paper that was lost on the way Headed the Vicker a novel (Vickeranovel) after traveling as far back as as my east gate of my upper field on the public road i found the paper write where we turned off of Said road to come into my field i dismounted from my horse hitched him to a post opened the wire gate walked out on the public road then picked up the paper returned in Side of my gate fastening the Same I then mounted on my horse then rode back home delivered the paper too my wife then unsaddled my horse and fed the teem. after they were through eating i then taken them too the bosque and watered them then turned them in to E.D.Costleys field to graze i then returned home closing and fastning all gate(s)that i passed through. after arriving at my house i walked out in to my corn field then gathered Some corne and fed my fatning hogs after i was through with that work. i then assisted my wife in putting her calves a way. in the Stable and feeding of them during all this time that i write a bout being buisey my wife was a great deal more So crouded in her work than i were as She had to milk her cows water the hogs and do her housework but as we are through with our out door work we will recline in Side of our doors by a comfortable fire and take a rest as both are tiard after resting for Sometime we then departed to our bed of repose by first asking the Lord to gard and protect us through the present night as he has through the day just passed and gone. and when done with these frail bodies of ours to hand us down to our grave in peace with the (Thee) and all man Kind and in heaven Save us is my prayer to night-Amen
