Looking almost due west
1. Hamilton County Courthouse
2. Hamilton County Genealogical Library and Research Center
(includes offices) – 209 West Henry
3. Hamilton City Hall – building was originally the site of the Perry
National Bank (now First National Bank and located one block south)
4. This big building served as the Railroad Station until the Railroad was
shut down in about 1940. Elreets's father bought her the last ticket sold
into Hamilton. For many years this building housed the Chevrolet dealership
(through about 4 owners). In recent years the back portion has continued to
be the location of one or more automobile shops. The front has been used by
a variety of businesses…most recently the HenHouse Café, now operating in the
old Quonset hut across the street. There has been discussion about restoring
the building to its appearance as a RR Station and make it into a museum.
5. Sections of Pecan Creek Park (our City Park) which extends about 10 blocks from
just north of the East Gentry crossing on the creek, on the North end…to the
football stadium on the south end.
6. The round structure to which is being pointed is one of three gazebos to be found
in Pecan Creek Park. Each has a good roof overhead, native rock pillars for “sides”
and a concrete floor (each has a ramp for handicapped users). Each gazebo is equipped
with electrical outlets for speakers, instruments, etc.
7. Sections of the hiking trail that extends from one end of Pecan Creek Park to the other.
8. East Henry Street – The Public Library is just beyond the bottom of this picture, across
the other direction (west) about 3 blocks from the point indicated here.
9. East Main Street (a.k.a. Highways 36 & 22) The bottom arrow accompanying the #9
lies along the Pecan Creek Bridge. Until very recently, following a heavy rain, no
creek crossing south of this bridge was passable. All traffic had to go up to Main,
cross the creek, and resume back south to the driver’s destination.
10.St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
11. First United Methodist Church – occupies the entire block except for the white building
just below the #11. It is a paint and body shop.
12. United States Post Office.
13. North Rice Street (a.k.a. Highway 281)
